Bobcat Attack

Well-known member
Went Turkey hunting the past few days and almost got attacked by a Bobcat. It thought I was a turkey when I was calling and came within 7ft of me and was about to leap on me. Shot it in the head with a 12 ga. Got some pics if anyone will post them for me..

I was in full camo with a female turkey call. He though I wa a turkey. I kept calling just to see how close he would get. We also called ina coyote, but it smelled us from about 25ft and ran.

That sucks.
That is an awsome animal.

What do you mean awesome animal. I would love to shoot a bobcat just haven't got the chance yet. And there are bunches of them remember their cats and they breed like rabbits.

Nice bobcat?

Are you going to mount it or did the shotgun do too much damage? Looks like it would make a nice mount?

They aren't rare around here (in OK) just a little out of season. YOu can't mount them once they start to shed their winter coat or all the hair will fall out.

Why the fuck would you want to kill one? Would that give you some cheap thrill?

Damn, I'd love to get a bobcat. In all of my years of hunting deers/turkey, I've never seen one.

Nice kill!

In the midwest and parts of the south they are common as hell, its not like their an endangered species or a tiger.

You knew it was coming and you kept luring it in and shot it? Not cool.

I'm with you on this one........

Shooting for food is cool. Killing to maintain a popultion of something (for example in Scotland deer are culled) is cool to. Killing for kicks is pathetic.

I'd expect a few more turkeys, and maybe a few more pheasant and quail if they live in the area, will make it to maturity (as opposed to the inside of a kitty's tummy).

In the situation he describes I wouldn't have shot the cat - but don't pretend that his only motivation could have been a bloodthirst.

Typical comments from the great people of Canada and UK.
That was the fifth one I saw that week.
I kill animals, a lot of them ,, legally,,

so FUCK YOU if it makes you sad about a little kitty getting blasted in the head with a 12ga. Go cry to momma, but keep you mouth shut and whine to the State of Oklahoma for it being legal.

Just to make you all happy I think I'll post about a dozen pics of nice little over populated animals I've killed just so oyu have a hard time sleeping at night and you can talk about all the rednecks in the US over fuckin tea..lol

Be honest HillBilly you shot the thing cause you could. That measley ass cat looks like the one I have running around the house.About to attack give me a fucking break. Then again I dont blame ya its got to get pretty boring lathered in turkey cum, hangin out with a bunch of red necks in the bush, drinkin ol granddad, blowin turkey whistles.

Nothing against UK and Canada, they just don't seem to think we are out to kill animals for fun. Which I guess we are. Hunting is a sport and has rules. The Wildlife Dept, sets limits on how many animals you can take to keep the pop in check. It really helps the animals out. You also pay a tag fee which 90% of it goes to conserving wetlands and protecting forests. If it weren't for backwoods okies like us there would be no funding for these type of programs. I've seen it first hand. There get to be too many deer in one area and they start inbreeding and their food sources become scarce. They get sick and die, or move into residential areas. When this happens the state actually has a guy who goes out and shoots them and leaves them to rot. It all evens out. For those who think it is cruel, do some research. Look at the deer pop in Ok from say the 1930's and now. It's has like tripled. Hunting is the best way to keep the pop in check and much better that animals starving to death or developing bad genetics from inbreeding, etc.

He is called the State Hunter

We have a ranch with several bass ponds on it and the beavers were killing all the ig oaks. We gave him a call he came and assesed the pop and sat out in a 2 man bass boat with a 12 pac and a .223 and killed 3 beavers one night,,,and got payed. What a life.

I don't think anyone should kill anything for sport.

If you're going to eat it, and feed your children with it... by all means... shoot that fucker... twice. But killing it to show you've killed something to me shows a great deal of insecurity, and it's a good way for a man to justify himself to other men.

But that's just my view of things.

I understand how the animals might starve and all of that, but that is nature's way. Is it cruel? No. It's nature. It's no more cruel than a lion killing a baby pig, or whatever.

Killing something is one thing, taking pictures to show everyone how cool it is, is another. If you can kill the animal on its own terms, sweet. More power to you. But my two year old son could kill a 220 lb kickboxer with a gun. Is that a sport? Does that make my boy more of a man?

No. It just means he pulled the trigger at the right time.

I'm not a tree-hugger or anything... I just don't think killing anything for sport is a sport. You get in a room with a mountain lion in a pair of shorts and a tank-top on, and break the thing's neck or back and kill it that way... now THAT is something to be proud of.

While these cats look like innocent large house cats, they will tear your ass up good if you allow them to do so.

I have seen many a cat while riding in his neck of the woods and I wouldn't hesitate to cap one that got a little to nosey.

Oh yeah... I forgot to say that killing animals like mountain lions that may run into residential areas if they become overpopulated isn't a bad idea, as no one wants their child attacked by a mountain lion.

In areas where the animals begin venturing into land populated by people, I agree with killing them. Killing for sport, posing for pictures, and making tv shows and magazines out of it to me is insanity. I'd kinda like to go and beat the absolute shit out of one of those guys, and show him that without his weapon, he is a useless, overweight sack of shit.... but that's another story.

I'd become a hunter if they'd put child molesters and murderers and rap-artists out there and gave me a license to kill them.

You should of wrestled it, grabbed it by the tail and ninja star throwed that mutha about 50 feet.

I agree fully. However, that is not the case in this situation.

I especially like the title of your thread, 'bobcat attack'.

There was no attack.

You could have easily scared it off. You're just trying to justify killing it, because you're trigger happy.
You shot it dead...7 ft from you...oooohh, real sharpshooter, real sportsman

You were hunting for turkeys, in part 'to control population'. Why shoot a bobcat? They naturally prey on turkeys.

Killing for sport is just wrong..

He called the animal - a notoriously alert animal - in to a distance of 7 feet. This takes real skill from a real sportsman.

Perhaps he was looking to "control the population" of turkeys. With one less babcat in his woods, I'd expect a few more turkeys will make it to maturity (as opposed to the inside of a kitty's tummy).

Ya I could of scared it off in a second, but turkeys are just making a comeback in from over hunting several years ago. I need to help out all the turks i can, plus there are several cats on this place, I see one everytime I go out, which isn't normal./...

I hear you bro. My best pheasant grounds have been taken over by coyotes in the recent couple of years. Last fall I didn't see one single pheasant. As soon as class is out for summer I'm going to try my hand at preditors for the first time. :)
