board presses

Carmen

want to get my lockout a little stronger so i'm going to start using board presses after my flat benches. I started today and had no idea where i'd be at but i was pretty happy with how i did, especially cause i'm just coming back from a major lapse in my training due to the holidays and cause i was already tired from doing flat benches.
this was it:

flat bench:
145 x 5
145 x 4
135 x 7

still a few reps short of where i should be.

3 board presses:
155 x 4 (easy)
165 x 4
170 x 2
170 x 2

lat pulldowns
HS chest press
seated rows
done. :)

They really do help your lockout strength. I swear by them.

oh, i know- i've done them before but i stopped training with my shirt for a while to get my raw bench up. now its time to get my shirted bench there too. i want to get 225.

I haven't done them lately, but I do love them. I have a feeling that I would blow the minds of some of the people in my gym if I started doing them again. ;)

Palease... the gym was FILLED with young boys on winter break i guess or just became old enough for their own membership. it was PACKED with 18 year old boys struggling with quarters on the bar. Thats fine- i mean, its great that they are lifting, but the STARES i got between benching more than them, my own growling, my training partner swearing at me in some non sensical british accent, and the boards on my chest were pretty funny.

do board presses have any benifit for bodybuilding?

i wouldn't think so.

i would disagree with you :)
my tris's have never gotten worked so hard as they have when i do board presses..i use a close grip pinky on the rings and you can use supra max weights here so your causing more stress to the muscles..

instead of goin out and making boards try this..do some lockouts with at least a 6 inch range of motion in a power rack..you should be using a weight that is more than what you currently bench or use for close grip presses..do sets of 5 until you cant get 5 anymore and up the weight 20 lbs each set..

do not try to control the bar on the negative rather let it hit the pins regrip and push up pause for a second drop then reset etc...

after careful consideration i've decided you're right.
cherish this moment. lol. i'm kidding. they do hit triceps nicely and anything that aids in increasing strength HAS to help in increasing size.
