Board Presses

Where do i get these 'boards' ?

Can i buy them somewhere or do most gyms provide them?

Sorry for sounding like a noob. :)
 
Go to Lowes or a lumber yard and tell them what you want. I use Duck Tape to hold mine together.

I've never done them, but I would think with the boards, you still need to balance the large amount of weight on your chest. The pins leave no room for that.

Mine are 18".. The Top board is 18" with a handle cut into it...And the boards under it are 15" and they are 2x6s
 
you really can't do these in a power cage...

when you do board presses you transfer the weight to your body. When you do rack presses you transfer the weight to the rack. two different things

i use 2x4s cut into like 1.5 foot long peices and duck tape them together

Interesting... I still don't see much of a difference; but I can understand your point.

Im sure B or someone will have a pic, but its not hard to build at all. Cut 2 2x6 boards...around 16" long. Lay one on the ground, so the 6" sides are on the top and bottom. Stack the other on top. Secure them together by whateer means you like. Simple as that.
 
Okay, did some searching, and found Hannibal's post. For some reason, I couldn't remember the exact length we used:

And what I mean by handle is this, if you are making a 3 Board. Cut 2 pieces to 24"...and one piece to 30". Cut a notch on both sides of the extra 6" so it forms a handle. Then put it in the middle of the other 24" pieces and there you have your 3 Board with a handle.

I made our 5 board recently, and used a circular saw to start the notches for the handle, on both sides of the board, then used a hand saw to finish the cuts. I believe I made the handle roughly the same width as the thickness of the board itself, so it's basically square. I believe a 2" x 6" is actually 1 1/2" or 1 3/4", don't remember for sure.

I'd suggest using 2 1/2" screws or nails to fasten the boards, but you can use duct tape. I sanded all surfaces with 100 grit paper, just to avoid splinters and snags.

I'm actually considering making these to sell for those people that need them, but don't have the tools or the inclination to do it themselves.

One other suggestion: buy a lighter wood if you can. I just find it's a little easier to sling a 5 board around if it's not made out of oak or something. :)
 
I would back up The Project on that statement re: lighter wood. My forearm hurt for a month after training with the KC crew. handling the 5 board with one hand was not very healthy on my whimpy little forearm muscles and tendons.

heres a video of me board pressing from a while ago...

I used to use different boards as max effort moves. Now I use boardpresses as asistance.

Usually someone would be holding the board...I don't have a training partner usually so I just put it under a sweatshirt, works the same.

Hmm...i'm not sure...just guessing...but i would think you would need to have elbows in while boardpressing to get the intended results? So you guys with BB form should reconsider when doing these

can somone confirm that?
 
i definately need to find a way to keep the boards from sliding off me (even under a sweater) in the middle of a set.

i agree, tec, on the PL form vs BB form for these. you would not get intended results and would probably just hurt yourself

BB form should be illegal ;)
 
My chest grows from doing these board presses...

You can use all kinds of grips when you do them too...

Heh...I just didn't want to sound like a wus.

I think the 5 board I just made is lighter than the 4 board.
 
I think Rejects forearms would be fine after renewing his subscrip to GimpTimes......overtrained maybe...

Here's what i do to keep them in place and it works perfectly.. I even prefer it over having someone hold the boards.

I take one of my mini bands and double it over so i have a tight loop.... Then i slide it over my head and around my chest.. Then I simply put the boards under the band.. It works great...
