Blood work - High Creatinine levels

I've been consistently testing in the high range for Creatinine. This has been going on for at least 2 years and three blood tests.

The only numbers I have before me are from early 2002:
Normal .7 - 1.5
Mine were 1.9

It was not that far out of range so the doctor made no big deal about it.

It has since remained on the high side. I don't have the numbers before me, but when the doctor mentioned that they were high on my most recent blood test I pointed out to him they've been high for quite a while.

I didn't get the most recent numbers because I kind of went blank after he mentioned Hepatitis C might be the cause.

I've been tested for Hepatitis C - Negative.
I'm going for a liver and kidney Ultrasound tomorrow.

Does anyone, health proffesionals only please, know what the causes of this are.

Stupid question (maybe) but are you taking any creatine products? Excessive amounts (i.e. more than your body will utilize) of creatine WILL break down into creatinine. Also, creatine in any powder for degrades rapidly into creatinine on the shelf. Have you engaged in chronic use of creatine products proximal to these blood tests?

Secondly, an protein rich diet can contribute to creatinine levels. High-protein will elevate creatinine levels.

Dehydration, alone and especially coupled with high protein intake, will elevate creatinine. You may be suprised to learn just how many people are chronicaly dehydrated and not know it (over half the population by some estimates.)

Aside from these all that comes to mind is actual organ disfunction.

Good luck.

Absolutely. Most BB'ers/Weightrainers will test on the high end of Creatine/Blood Urea Nitrogen scale,if not slightly out of range, simply due to the fact that our diets are not like the standard adult, and our nitrogen turnover,as well as the organs stress of cellular processes/exportation of free radicals from intense training. Both can skew our vitals, and more often than not,it's not a need for alarm.Just continue to do what you have been doing and have regular bloodwork ran.If the levels stay the same,it's probably nothing to fret over.

This can be a pretty key concept here. Baseline measure can be at a high level compared to the norm charts and your function may still be normal, but a fluctuation will illuminate actual kidney function.

Thanks for the rely's guys.

No, no creatinine use at all. Not for many years.

I had asked the doctor if high levels of protien would cause this, and he said no. I was pretty sure it would. Even though he's a Dr "Feel big", I'm not too sure he really all that schooled in the subject unfortunately. He's good for scripts, that's about it I guess.

The Ultra Sound certainly won't hurt. It would be very reassuring to know I have normally functioning kidneys/liver. At least from an Ultra Sound point of view.

I have been experiencing some back pain, although this is a not abnormal for me. Now he has me thinking maybe it's not "back" but organ(kidney) pain. These are my thoughts, not his.

Next time I go I'll get the exact numbers from the last two tests.

Thanks again for the replies,

Yes, I probably need to up my water intake. I just hate peeing all the time.

Of course I cannot comment on your particular situation, as to whether a high protein diet cause this in you, but if your doctor is unaware that high protein diets will rack up creatinine levels, I'd seek a new doctor to figure this out.

As far as the water intake and peeing all the time... The curse of man bro, the curse of man.

I only see him once in awhile. Like I said, he's pretty loose with the scripts, and I can get blood work done and not have my doctor look at me like a crackhead. I can get HCG with no questions.

I got turned on to him by a co-worker. Had my test levels checked. I was on the low normal range. Get this - he asks if I'd like to go on "HRT". An 800mg/week cycle of Cypionate. Yes cycle. Far as I know HRT is not cycled, let alone done at 800mgs. He sells it out of his office. I've never bought any from him. The guy I know has and from his desciption it sounds like it comes from a compounding pharmacy, and not a very good one at that. Real painful injects. His Cypionate is reasonable, $100 for a 200mg/10ml bottle. He also has Deca $200 a bottle. If it were a script this guy would be golden. I'll skip his gear thank you. Funny I can get better gear from [email protected] then a US doctor.
That's not a real source guys.

His PCT consists only of HCG. Nothing else. His reasons, I was told this second hand, he didn't want to write a script for Clomid or Nolvadex for a male. With his "HRT" he does include 3rd generation anti-e's. I don't remeber which. Yes, I know they're not typically used in males either. Don't ask, I don't know.

But he's not doing the bloodwork, only taking the blood. So as long as things come back normal I don't have to rely on his medical knowledge to make me healthy. If something were seriously wrong I'd go to my real doctor.

I plan on quizing the Radiologist tomorrow, and getting my own copy of the results.

genarr, I know a doctor like that in TO as well. He sells AS out of his office among other things. He also parties and does rec drugs like Xtc and Coke. Health Professional my ass.

If he's presribing 800mgs a week, I imagine occasionally he prescribes nolvadex.

hey genarr, My blood work reads 1.0 creatinine and my

UREA NITROGEN (BUN) --27 H range 7-25

BUN/CREATININE RATIO--27 H both are high range (6-25)

Just thought Id share, you commented on my post for docs appointment blood test.

My test was 245 ---range is 241-827- I fall into normal but low so im having more blood taking

what was your reading you said your was on the low side

My BUN is always around 19-22 and my Creatinine level always hovers around 1.5

You have to remember that the creatinine values are for people who do little excercise.

Weights and/or cardio will increase tour creatinine values substantially.

Also, don't forget to fast and do nothing for 12 hours before the test.

Excercising even 6 hours beforehand can skew your values by quite some margin.

Didn't fast at all. Wasn't told to. Even with that my values were for the most part within range. This is all basically a waste of time. The only good that comes of it is I'll get my kidney's and liver looked at from an Ultrasounds point of view and I'll feel better knowing they're healthy.

I have been having some back pain, and although I've had it come and go in the past, his mention of kidney malfunction had me concerned.

Thanks for the reply buddy,

Lower back pain(Painful pumps) is a direct result of increased IGF-1 Levels.

Dball is the worst regarding this. I can barely walk on 30mg/day.
