Blood work-doesn't make sense?

I just got back from the doctor's office to have blood work done. I told them to check my testosterone levels because it was low last year when I had been on Norandriol 19, it was 125 on a scale of 250-900 being normal, these normal range numbers are an estimate because I didn't see that test, but they are close to accurate. After being off of 19 andriol for 3 months my levels rose to 405 NG/DL. Well I thought that was back in the normal range. My doctor just informed me and I have the test results to show that my levels were off the charts??? The reference range was 20-76. How in the hell did that happen? Can rebound effect be that strong? And what doesn't make sense is that while is was on the 19 andriol and had low test levels, I was bigger and stronger. On the 3 months off when my test levels shot through the roof I lost size and strength??? Go figure.

I've been on 500 mgs. of test for a few months so this time I expect the numbers to be way off the chart. I should get the results tomorrow.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here and say the 500 mg. of test a week is the cause for your extraordinarly high levels. :p

I guess I didn't word my post very well. This test was taken when I was clean. I hadn't been on steroids for 6 years. Only 19 andriol which lowered my levels. It had to be a rebound effect from the 19 andriol.

Maybe Nelson Montana knows.

I doubt the Andriol would have a rebound effect that long after discontinuing it.

You stated that the initial test was taken 3 months AFTER stopping Andriol, correct?

If that's the case, it is highly unlikely that would be the cause for the high levels.

Were you on any other antibiotics or drugs around the time of the initial test.

My suggestion would be to wait for the current results and see where they sit. Please post the updated results when you receive them.

Confused

I think you may have confused a few things.
Firstly, you need to distinguish between TOTAL testosterone and FREE Testosterone.
You also need to pay attention to the units.
Total testosterone can be expressed as ng/dL or nmol/L
Free testosterone is expressed as pg/mL or pmol/L
The range for total testosterone in adult males is 300-1000 ng/dL (range will vary some depending on who you ask)
or 10.4 to 34.7 nmol/L

The range for Free Testosterone is 50-260 pg/ml or 174-902 pmol/L.

The range the doctor quoted you (20-76) sounds like the reference range for an adult female's total test.

Maybe your should ask your doc for more information.
Hope this helps.

I will post the results. The first test was when I was on the andriol and my levels were low. The second test was 3 months later after the first test and I stopped taking the andriol. On the second test the #'s were off the charts. I wasn't taking anything at all at that time.

You see, the problem is that the body can only product SO MUCH test on it's own. When the levels are THAT HIGH, it is simply impossible for the body to be producing it all on it's own.

Even with a rebound effect.

This is very unclear. State your current level, the units (ng/ml, etc), and the lab's reference range. Different labs use different ranges, and sometimes different units of concentration.
Also, is there some confusion of total vs free test levels? 20-76 sounds more like the ranges most labs use for free test, 300-1000 roughly for total.

Bingo. Shows what a dumbass my doctor is. He's the one that said my levels were off the charts and the reason why is that on the test it has my sex listed as female. That explains it all.

Yeah no kidding. How could he have not caught that. He sees the level as 405 and tells me that it was high. I said, but isn't the normal range 300-1000? He showed me where the reference range was 20-76. Damn, How could he not know that was wrong? I will never listen to one of his anti-steroid speeches again. I also told him that my shoulder was the only thing limiting me from competing for a record in the bench press. I asked for a recommendation. He said, you don't want to cripple yourself trying to break a record. Can you permanently cripple yourself with an injury from benchpressing? I doubt it.
