"Blood Diamond" review

Very solid film. Political overtones about the diamond trade out of Africa, and the horrible things that are being done to supply the demand(slavery, dismemberment, rape, murder). DiCaprio gives a great performance, but the star of the movie is the highly underrated Djimon Hounsou, who is an amazingly versatile actor. Plot revolves around Hounsou's character's village being pillaged by rebel forces who rip his family away from him and force him into slavery mining the diamond fields. He finds a pink diamond over 100 karats in size and hides it just before the camp is caught up in a war. Dicaprio(a mercenary-slash-diamond hunter) and him temporarily end up in the same jail, where he overhears talk of the diamond that was hidden by Hounsou, and this sets the two on a mutual back-scratching partnership-Dicaprio promising to reunite him with his family in exchange for being led to the stone. But they must contend with every enemy on both sides imaginable in order to accomplish the tasks set out befor them. Film is fast paced, action-packed, with very powerful performances. Highly recommended.
