there are so many flaws with the reparations argument that it isn't funny.
1. It is an evil world and every race/sex/religion has been victimized pretty badly at one time or another. White people lived under slavery for centuries before blacks did under european feudalism. You don't hear us asking the kings of europe for reparations.
2. There is still slavery in africa, and black people do nothing about it.
3. By having to live in the first world, blacks are privy to advanced health care, good education & a (relatively) non repressive government. If they had been left in africa they would be much worse off.
I wonder how much of that reparation money will go to free real black slaves in africa (you can buy one's freedom for about $400), or to provide real africans with medicine or food. It'll probably go towards boomboxes & lexuses here in america where anyone who is willing to go to college can make $35k a year.

On average, there were 100 lynchings of black people a year in america from 1865-1935, giving about 7,000 lynchings total.
There are roughly 30,000 murders a year in america, 54% committed by blacks, most of their victims black.

There was some guy on 'hannity & colmes' yesterday, someone called 'shabizz (sp) X'. When hannity told him that the Sudanese still enslaved blacks, he denied it. Then hannity asked him what he thought about Farrakahns support of Hussein, when hussein has murdered 1.5 million muslims (more muslims than anyone else today), and Shabizz (sp) basically pleaded ignorance. How the hell can you claim to care about black people & muslims when you act that way?

this is all political, there is no way reperations could ever happen. It would finacially destroy the country. Most blacks that have made it aren't looking for a handout, these are mainly people that are down on their luck that are looking for some quick cash to pay off their credit cards.
A little known fact is that there were a very small number of black slave owners, maybe they should have to pay reperations. Also, people make it look like everyone owned slaves, which is not the case. Slaves were owned by the very wealthy, ie plantation owners, and not person owned a plantation.

Reparations are impossible because there is no rational way to try to decide who should pay and who should receive. To pick an extreme (and tongue-in-cheek) example, would Tiger Woods pay, or receive, or both? I'm three-quarters European, but all my ancestors emigrated to America long after slavery ended, so why should I have to pay? I'm also one-quarter Cherokee - should there be reparations for the Trail of Tears as well? But then again, some First Nations members owned slaves, so how would that work? And what about the complicity of various African tribes in the enslavement of other Africans? Could you hold the modern nation-states created where those tribal leaders once ruled responsible for their actions? What about the effects on the slaves' families that were left behind in Africa? Having a substantial part of the young population ripped out of their socities must have had a substantial impact on their economies. Since many of the slaves were brought over when we were still part of the British Empire, should the British government also be liable, or did the Revolution absolve them of that liability? What about...

Also, since the actual reparations would be paid from the general Treasury, middle-class and affluent black Americans would be paying reparations to themselves and to poor blacks. What is the logic in this?
