My good friend is 35.. Mormon.. recently left the church because he read up on the true history of Joseph Smith and those fanatical crackpots.. his life is ruined because of that church... and this guy is just another glowing example.

It's great to live here aside from the politics. They came here because they basically got kicked out of Missouri, or wherever. They control everything here, make more money than Nike, and judge as harshly as southern Baptists.

It's the fastest growing one in the world. To be in good standing with the church you have to give 10% of your pre tax income, no matter how poor or how many kids you have. They keep tabs on it too. The bishop will come around asking why you haven't paid, they don't let you into the temple, pretty fucked up IMO.

believe me bro, I know, they give the statements at the end of the year.

I've had a temple reccomend before, and a pair of garments. I wanted to learn so much about this church. It started in high school when I dated a mormon chick, she had like 5 brothers, they all hated me cuz I was not mormon, i was regular christian.

Then I found out about the garmets you wear.. the biblical names they give you.. the baptisms of the dead... all those things, and I wanted to find out more. I read books, joined a ward.. they were really nice, but then the bishop started telling me things I had to not do.. like no coffee or tea.. or alcohol.. they call it the words of wisdom..

then I leared the history... but they don't like you to lear the history.. read a book called "No Man Knows my History" it is all about joseph smith, boy is that one an eye opener.

I don't think they are evil people really, just misguided. I think its cool to live a good life, have a strong healthy family, have family at home night once a week.. spend two years of your life volunteering.. that is totally cool. But when they start saying its because some god or higher power told them.. or better yet, that moroni came and told joseph smith, via these plates.. that he used stones to decopher.. the urim and thuminin or whatever.. the same stones he used for treasure hunting! That is when it starts to get wacky and scary.

And then there is the mountain meadows massacre.. all kinds of other violence that surrounded the church.. brigham young was a real piece of work... then Joseph smith's wife started her own faction... and there are fundamentalists too in AZ and Bountiful canada that still practice poligamy and fuck 13 year old girls (their own daughters in some cases).. then you just sit back and start to go WOW>

No I never got baptised, I just used my friends card to get in, I said i was from another city and they just look at the card, they didn't check ID Or anything.. saw the cool baptism thingy with the 12 oxen.. didn't really do much else.

No, with one other mormon guy we used to roll with, he was cool, barely had his reccomend still because he wasn' keeping the words of wisdon (he liked to drink) but he told the bishop that he didn't drink or smoke so he still got to hold onto it for a couple years after he shouldn't have.

i've been to Salt Lake City, I toured everything there.. I couldn't get into the temple though :(

Its funny though, there were chicks from all over the world working there that would try to talk up mormonism every 5 minutes, I'd play along and act real interested in it.. then towards the end... actually this was the Tour of the home of Brigham young... this brazillian girl was really cool.. 22... HOT as hell super hot.. so she was all nice, probably thought she was gonna get me to sign up.. so I asked her if she wanted to hang out later, she knew I was from San Diego.. I said we could go get a drink... or if she doesn't drink we could get coffee or whatever.. she got this weird look on her face and kind whispered to me "we're not supposed to"... she gave me her # and I called that night.. she must have had a change of heart, she told me that she really wanted to but really shouldn't while she was there on her mission or whatever.. i finally got her to meet at this mall across the street from the whole temple and stuff... at some bookstore, barnes and noble I think.. i had coffee.. she had water and a slice of cheesecake.. I could tell she was really into me but knew I wasn't gonna join the church.

She still emails me about once a month.
