NARRAGANSETT - A University of Rhode Island student, believed to be Southern Rhode Island's main steroid dealer, was arrested on four felony drug charges Monday afternoon, after police raided his Narragansett home and recovered $29,000 in cash and an assortment of pills, vials and needles.
Jason M. Cholewa, 22, of 27 Clara Lane, was arraigned in Fourth Division District Court Tuesday morning, on charges of possession with intent to deliver steroids and Vicodin, and possession of steroids and Vicodin. He entered no plea before Associate Judge John M. McLoughlin, and was ordered held at the Adult Correctional Institutions without bail.
"He's a big fish in a little pond," said Det. Lt. Gerald Driscoll in a telephone interview Tuesday morning. "I don't ever remember, in my time, a steroid seizure of this magnitude."
Each drug charge is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and more charges could be filed, pending toxicology results on some of the unidentified pills.
Driscoll said that Cholewa, a URI communications major originally from Connecticut who had just completed his junior year, first "surfaced several weeks ago" to narcotics detectives in Newport, where he was working. When he moved to Narragansett in recent weeks, Narragansett detectives joined the surveillance.
Police obtained a search warrant from Associate Justice Edward C. Clifton
last week. The warrant was executed at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, when Narragansett and Newport detectives entered Cholewa's rental home, where he lives with four other roommates, none of whom where involved in the crackdown.
All of the drug paraphernalia was located in Cholewa's bedroom, along with the $29,000 in cash.
Driscoll said detectives recovered thousands of different colored pills, many suspected to be steroids, and valued between $3,000 to $4,000.
In addition, "We recognized obvious vials of steroids used for injection," as well as syringes, said Driscoll.
Detectives also found Vicodin pills, a painkiller commonly used in conjunction with anabolic steroids, and unidentified small blue pills, suspected to be Viagra, sometimes used to counteract the erectile dysfunction side effects associated with steroid use.
A large portion of the pills was found hidden inside a gutted out VCR, said Driscoll.
"We feel he was the main dealer in Southern Rhode Island," he said, calling Cholewa a "medium to high end dealer," who receives his shipments from out of state.
He said the defendant, who has no previous drug record, appears "very knowledgeable" about the steroid trade, based on the variety of narcotics found.
Toxicology results on the unidentified pills are expected within 30 days."

has anyone else heard the commercials on ESPN Radio? They advertise Bodybuilding.com on the ESPN Radio since that bust. "For all your fitness questions" blah blah blah...
Ever since that pop and then those commercials, just does not seem to be a good idea.
He even wore a BB.com Tshirt to court that first day, (probably what he had on when arrested).

It may be unrelated, but they are the only "aas/fitness site" I've heard on the radio.
That's because they are also the only site you know with that kind of budget. Their site is 15 times larger than the number two site and they take in over $30 million a year. A pretty good number for a family run business.
They don't run their site as an AS site. It is more for supplements than AS. They use standard business practices to make their site bigger. They don't rely banners or memberships like everyone else does. It's their business model that gives them the money to advertise in 30 magazines and on radio.

I wouldn't necessarily say he was fucked. When I was 22 I got popped with 33lbs of herb and they charged me with manufacturing, distribution, 3 gun charges, public nescience and manufacturing w/intent to distribute. The cops found $25k in cash, took my car and my house. All because I stuck my dick in the wrong chic one night...that's a whole other story.
Anyway a $40k lawyer later I ended up doing 4 days served, 20 weekends, a year and a half house arrest and 5yrs probations. I was look'n at 15yrs for my first drug charge and I thought my ass was DONE! It made the news and the Baltimore Sun 2 days in a row. So I too thought they were going to make an example of me.But as you can see you just never know until the gavel drops. The moral of my story is don't brake the law and if you do and get caught never rat and spend as much money as you possibly can on the best fuck'n drug lawyer you can find! The quality of your mouth piece can mean the difference of house arrest and 15yrs.
He'll never be able to legally own a gun, vote, or use his college degree most likely but odds of him doing over a year is very slim unless he's got a public defender...which I seriously doubt. If he has half a brain he'll figure out how to make decent living legally when its all said and done. His skin color just got a little darker.
