Big ears?

If you had an abnormal facial feature like let’s say big ears that stick out too far and don’t match the rest of you’re physical appearance would you have a minor plastic surgery to improve it? Or would you consider that weak and live with it? Do you consider big ears unattractive or non athletic looking?

Some cultures consider big ears very attractive indicative of long life or other factors. However, many individuals have come to see me from around the world because they just do not like big ears.

There are many different problems that present as "Big Ears." For most it is just a problem that the ears stick out. Different elements of the ear can be the source of the deformity. Ears can be physically large such as in macrotia. Macrotia big ear deformity comes in many different variations, some require complex sculpture to balance the different ear elements. In other patients it can be a combination of macrotia and protrusion. Surgical solutions are best individualized to the specific deformity. Such issues are best explored with an experienced plastic surgeon who can examine the problem and discuss the risks, benefits, and alternate methods of care.

Hope this helps,

A friend of mine got his ears tucked back. He was previously very self conscious. Now he's a new man. Thing was, he was the only one who ever made an issue of it. Still, if it makes you feel more confident - go for it!

Just book a trip to Ferenginar and enjoy the Oo'mox.
Like DrBermant said, it all varies by culture as to what's ideal or abnormal. Look in the mirror and ask yourself whether what you see is acceptable.

I have done many ear sculptures over the years of my practice. The one thing every adult patient had in common was stories of years of torment from peers about their ears. That is why all plastic surgeons encourage parents with children who have distorted ears condsider their options before the age of social interaction. Kids can be cruel.

Rember this Campfire Song: Do Your Ears Hang Low? Open this link in a separate window leave the music playing and go through the otoplasty section on my site and you may begin to feel some of their stress and emotion on this issue.

For many this is not a trivial issue.

Hope this helps,
