Any of the BIG BOYS use protein bars as a daily staple? I've always thought they were garage, but times are changing.....ABB Zero sugar bar looked tempting......bought a case......just haven't opened them yet....I know this should be on the diet board, but I want the opinions from the guys who know......
 
I only eat those things if it's absolutely necessary.....like if I'm going on vacation and am stuck in the airport.....
 
I think most anyone who uses the bars, uses them out of convience and would eat real food or a shake if they could (both of the alternatives are cheaper).

Not a "BIG BOY" but just trying to help

only when i dont have access to real food or a blender, protein bars are loaded with glycerol
 
I've just brought a box to try £30 rip off!!!!
The bloke said they taste like mars bars.....bollocks..they taste like shit.....you can actually taste the chemicals.

But at 30g of protein they are a useful addition to a days menu
 
Glycerol, hidden carbs from sugar alcohol, (generally) poor quality protein and protein (gelatin) that's unavailable for muscle growth (yet still counts towards label claim) makes bars a poor choice. Not to mention cost and taste.

True...Never again will I buy those things..they taste like ass.

I'm not a "big boy", but if I may suggest so, why don't you try making your own bars? Sure it's inconvenient, but you can get all natural ingredients, fresh uncooked protein of your choice (not denatured).

Raw oats
flax seeds
peanut butter
flax oil (optional, use if PB is too dry)
protein powder
nutritional yeast
honey


stir a thick mixture and spread it on wax paper. Refridgerate and cut into strips.

for a sweeter bar, add a little juice concentrate.
you can add in creatine, wheat germ, raisins, or whatever else you like.
