hey guys i hope your day is as sunny as mine and enjoying the great fall weather, anyways, i used to be a able to a do a back flip when i was much lighter and into track and field and worked on jumps all the time etc, is there any way a bigger guy can perform a back flip on flat ground? i tired one yesterday and failed and i feel being big makes it impossilbe to do one. i am around 235 (lost 10-15 lbs)( damn post cycle) i think it is almost impossible to complete a back flip when you are larger.....

any of guys who can do a back flip still do it at a heavier wieght??

shane hammond can at 5'7 350 lbs. he can also 2 hand dunk a basketball w/ no running jump among other amazing things

look into o-lifting

an olympic weightlifting champion. there's got to be tons of info on him around the net

Still not sold that the OL lifts are going to make anyone an explosive person...

I agree, not by themselves. But added into an comprehensive, and explosive rotation, I think they can help tremendously.:)

is it the explosiveness that makes him a good o-lifter or the o-lifting that makes him explosive?????

when he was a powerlifter he used to do dive bomb squats......so quick that the judges couldnt catch them...that was years ago

some people have a better capacity to become "explosive" (muscle fibre make up, activites when young etc etc) whilst most will have to develop it.

there are many ways to become explosive or powerful.........olympic lifts rank #1 they require the most power to move the weight such a distance and speed.
but there other ways

A couple years ago my brother did a back flip with no practice. He was only 235lbs then. I'm almost sure he could still do one now weighing 270, cause he can jump high as hell, much higher than when he weighed 235.

That's awesome about Shane Hammond. He's one awesome athlete.

There is a genetic component in it, CNS firing speed and muscle makeup, but everyone can improve their power by increasing strength and off course the stretch reflex with plyos :)

Olylifts are basicly like weighted plyos, if done properly that is

DOing a backflip takes guts that's for sure :D

I dont think so. I wish it were so.

I have met FEW people in reality that can explode the way I can.

Your a trained athelete in a sport that requires explosion. I'm emphasizing the trained better. You can train people to be more explosive. If not then what's the point of bands or chains etc.

Who is Shane Hammond? I have never heard of him before! If all reported is true then that is truly amazing. Imagine a 5'7'' guy weighing 350 pounds dunking on you. I would not like to try and take a charge that's for sure. A Career ender!

Maybe more so than without them...

I for one have "credit card" hops...me no can jump very high! I played volleyball in high school and could hit the shit out of the ball but it usually ended up out of the court! I've been tinkering around with Oly lifts for a bit and am a little curious if my vertical jump has improved at all. I just like the challenge of nailing the lifts...and enjoy the great workout.

Like CCJ said, "Olylifts are basicly like weighted plyos, if done properly that is." The very nature of Oly lifts are to improve explosiveness, which can be taught if one is willing to learn. I'm not sure if this alone will allow you to do back flips, technique comes into play.

Olylifts will only help if your weakness is explosive strength.

Plyos will train other attributes etc

Olylifts definietly improve quickness and agility off the mark. First step speed etc . very noticable for me

I was explosive before I ever trained. I dunked a basketball when I was 5'9 in 8th grade. When I trained my explosive natural ability sky rocketed.

The average athlete will experience growth from olympic lifting but will never become truly explosive. Bands and chains can aid an athlete but will not make one explosive.

I understand that there are exceptions to every rule. Find me one besides Adam Archuletta.

stop bitching and just do it .. ive seen bodybuilders do it.

jump up UP not back!, throw your hands up so the lock out at the shoulder then at the PEAK of your jump bring your knees up to meet your hands and you should just go over.

If your are worried about doing it get a spotter it will build up confidence .. don't both with crap like doing it into a swimming pool

I'd hate to burst everyone's bubble who says explosion cannot be trained but it happened to me, not even joking. When I was little I used to run track, the mile to be percise. So, you can see I was a distance runner, with long strides. But, when High School came around, I started football and only. I never really had explosivness until Beginning of Senior year where I went to a "Speed Facility" where they taught you to run and be more exlosive. This took my 40 down from 5.3 to 4.8. The 40 is an explosive sprint, it can't be done quick until you do get off the line quick. So, there is always an option of "Speed Camp." :)

anyone know offhand how much vert you need to do a backflip? I'd like to learn how. Of course if I had the guts I'd just do them off of picnic tables or something where height isn't an issue. I can already do them on trampolines so I should have the basic technique.

so you can run the 40

what else?................

Smartass comment when you probably didn't get my point. The 40 is an explosive sprint. You can learn explosiveness. i.e. My point in that post.

Just keep in mind that its a comment from someone who CAN do it all my friend.

plain and simple.

I do see the point that you increased your speed in the 40. Congrats.

lol this post.......any of u bug boys still able to do back flips????? i can still do one of a char, but not flat ground, i asked this question since i am a show off and like to do shit like this :)

At 290 I could still do some pretty crazy aerial kicks...I'll see if I can find those vids again...
