What would YOU do???

I went in to the gym today, walked up to the rack to do deads, did 3 light sets of warm-ups and THEN some neanderthal-ette trainer proceeded to have her client do box step ups -with 5 lb weights right in my ass' way... no, she did NOT move, and the trainer actually had her feet between mine while I was deadlifing...... and since I have injured myself [lower back] doing deads before, I decided to NOT let her piss me off [the gym was empty, there was NO reason for her to park right on my ass]

I feel like complaining, and this is what I'd say
"PLEASE have the trainers have more respect for other member who are working out. I went to the gym today and the trainer proceeded to park herself on my tail while I'm deadlifting 190 lbs

thanks for letting me vent....

the gym was nearly empty today there was lots of room for the trainer to take her client but only one rack for me to use

i wanna complain wanna complain to the manager but should i...

if its exactly how you say it is, then yea...why not? better yet, you should have said something to them, or when it happens again say something to the trainer. Then if he doesnt move his client, you'll have a better reason to complain.

one thing i have noticed.

if the gym has its own trainers...and it costs more to have a trainer with you.....if you dont have a trainer, you will be treated like shit

WTF!....you shoulda drop kicked both of them in the teeth....

or at least something to the effect of "excuse me, I'm fucking working here".....

I used to go ape shit when people would piss me off like that at the gym. I am very considerate and respectful of everyone both in the gym and outside of the gym. I think that is the reason I lose my temper when people are so blatantly rude and disrespectful. Unfortuneately for me two things can happen...

1) I can ask them nicely to move and they agree

2) I can ask them nicely to move and they give me attitude at which time I cannot control my temper and I end up saying something that will get me into trouble.

Just that fact that I/we should have to ask such a thing is ludricous. Either people are clueless are just plain assholes.

Anyway, for the past two years I've been building a home gym in my basement and have the best workouts ever. I know this isn't an option for everyone but I couldn't take the gym scene any longer.

IMHO...just change your tune and present your case. Istead of thinking of it as complaining, which will naturally shed a negative light, think of it as addressing a safety concern. Present your case from the standpoint of safety for all involved, and get your point across while appearing to serve the masses. Anyone that can get pissed at that isn't worth a second thought.

A platform would solve these issues as it would guarantee a certain amount of space to those on it.

Also, Gyms are a business and the more sardines they can get in the can the more money they will make.

I joined a gym years ago and made the mistake of checking it out at odd hours before I joined. Well, after joining I realized that trying to work out during peak hours was absolutely impossible. You could barely find a parking spot let alone find a place to even stand inside.

One other thing that sets me off about gyms...

I hated the fact that your locked in for atleast a year. I mean if the gym is so confident in their facilities then they should allow a month to month type contract.

Also, gyms never survey the members upon sign up to find out when they plan on training (hours and days). Because obviously if 500 members all choose to workout between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm then there will be issues. Forgeting about fire codes, there should be a maximun number of people in certain workout areas at one time before safety is a factor and the gyms should enforce this.

We had a platform at my college gym and little dipshits would always walk across it while we were lifting. Instead of the two extra feet to walk around it they would sometimes walk under the bar on snatches and ohps. So one day when one of them did that I threw the weight at him. I made sure it would miss but funny how he and his friends never crossed over the platform again even when it wasn't being used.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I don't put up with taht sh-t at all. Tell the trainer to get out of your space... and tell them in the future they need to be more aware gym members working out. They aren't being paid to be idiots so they shouldn't be acting like idiots.

Hmmm. tough call. Usually I would just rack on some decent weight and when done with a lift throw it around a little, this usually makes people move.

I would suggest that next time they try to do that jsut ask them nicely to move, if they give an attitude tell them you don't want anyone to get hurt. Spatt aproachs work very well since the owners are liable for their trainiers

I would agree with Spatts, I would probably just say "I'm gonna need a little more room here to do these safely."

well..on second thought...maybe I wouldnt be that polite. :(

Thanks thanks

for the opportunity to vent and the helpful confirmation of my feelings on the matter... ahem... I agree with the 'liability' issue from the standpoint of the gym, and the idea that if you do not have a trainer from the gym then you are treated like shit and I agree will the idea that they should not act like idiots.

ah hell, I agree with all of the above and
tomorrow after my workout I will talk to the manager from the point of view of the safeness of her actions for me and for her client
