Best way to open amps?

I have amps on the way, and was wondering what everyone uses to open these things.

I do not have an amp opener - I have heard of folks using the cap of a bic pen, or a clean cloth over the amp while snapping the neck off, but not sure exactly how to do this - and I don't want to lose an amp becuase glass is floating around in it.

Do the amps need to be scored with a razor kinfe then snapped off or what?

this method is not high tech, but it has worked for me:

get an old fashioned hand crack can opener.....the one with the large wing nut for a crank....insert the top of amp into the hole in the hand crank, snap it to you........the tops of the amps snap right off every time.
 
Some people Also use the cap from a bic pen, insert the top of the Amp into the pen cap and snap to the side ..... Yay its open! But the Amp opener is best and is what i use it has a glass cutter in it so a bit better then the Bic cap and small chance of any glass shatter.
 
i got a amp opener... works fine... but does anyones get dull after using it? mine seems like its takin longers to open them....

just take a serrated kitchen knife and score the amp, then either take a pen cap or use a clean cloth and quickly snap the head of the amp off. works everytime. also you cant always avoid a little glass in the amp but ive just never worried about it to much it would be pretty hard for glass to go up the needle, in my opinion
 
Use the Pen cap method, and get one of those rubber jar lid openers.

Hold the amp in one hand with the rubber jar lid opener, "or a cloth, but the rubber jar lid gripper works better". Then place the pen cap over the top of the amp that you snap.

Then snap away. This works very well. If its very tough to open. Then score the amp around the breaking point with a razor blade or exato knife a couple of times and try it again. You should have any problems opening them like this
 
i always had a hard time figureing out what people meant when they say they us a pen cap... but im slow and get it now!

Just an FYI, but there is no way a piece of glass is making it thru the filter on the needle into the syringe. I basically used to just put the amp in a plastic baggie and hold it from the outside (to prevent glass on floor and counter) and I would just smack the amp head with a butter knife. Sounds nuts but it was sure fire that the head would pop and no juice would be lost. Never had a spill at all, which I couldn't say for snapping the amp. With this method, I'd f-up every blue moon. I open with an opener now, but my main point was there would almost always be broken glass in the amp, but it would never make it past the filter on my drawing needle. Only worry you might have is if you draw and shoot with the same needle as some could be needle side of the syringe. Who uses the same to draw and shoot anyway though?
 
I use a normal file that I buy from the hardware store. I then score the Amps at 3 o clock and 9 o clock (as you look at the Amps - not the actual time of day itself lol!!!) and this works just as well as any other.
 
filing/scoring is too damn much work........just snap the head of the lil' sukka!!

perhaps we are better at doing that here in "da south"............snapping the heads offin' crawfish is second nature to many of us here in the swamps.

I lived down there for over a year(actually Belle Chasse) and I never did get the hang of eating those bastards.

Someone once suggested this method and I had used it a couple times untill one amp shattered in my hand.

Here's a method that works well for me:

Take a towel or a bunch of toliet paper in one hand and take the amp with the other hand and place in towel. Then make a :Thumbs up: with the towel and amp in it. Hold the bottom of the amp with your index and middle finger, then take your thumb and press forward/upward in a quick and swift motion. The neck should SNAP right off.

only filter needles have filters... not all needles...
no offense, but your way sounds retarded.
one reason i love turkish primos... just look at the amp, aim the blue dot towards you, and snap away from you. no tools, no mess, no bullshit, the amps come prescored on one side.
otherwise i use a serrated kitchen knife to score the amp, not hard, not even enough to make a noticeable line, just spin the amp in the serrated edge a couple of times and snap away. i draw w/an 18 when using amps
 
Easiest way for me is to open a new alcohol swab, then after using the swab put the swab bag on top of the amp and snap it off. Works every time.

If you read the reply, I was making a point regarding the fear of glass getting in a syringe. Most needles have a screen in them, in fact I've seen none that don't. Its not the same filter as what you are refering to. The statemnet that only filter needles have filters is not accurate. Any screen can act as a filter and most needles have them. Not a full on filter like the ones for making homebrews, but good enough to prevent glass shards, which at their smallest are still quite large for these purposes Regardless, I was not presenting a better way to open amps, just a past experience. Where did I say, heres how to do it? Just an FYI was the first line. That said, I've actually lost more oil to spillage with other less "retarded" methods.

Get a little hand held glass cutter. Available at any hardware store. They're cheap too like 3$.Score the neck of the amp and break away. I always use a little towel or toilet paper at the top of the amp just in case it shatters( Ive had that happen before ) good luck
 
amp openers work great...they do get dull after a while though. You can also just snap it off....never had one shatter that way.
 
I always have used a piece of paper towel and just snapped the top away from me with my thumb. Works ok but i have had a vile shatter as well as some glass shards from a not so clean break.
