Best way to improve REM SLEEP?

Ok first thing first I do not want any reply saying to cutt out stims or drinks at night, I already have done this. For as long as I can remember I have been able to go on little sleep and only with in the last 4-5 years has it caught up to me. My biggest problem is falling asleep in the first place. I have the hardest time knocking out no matter how tired I am . I have been diagnosed with sleep apena but couldn't get use ot the machine due to always waking up to pee or by just waking up. I have tried ambien, lunesta, and even halicon. I have already tried before those and others Melotonin and 5htp. Even the 10 mg mela didn't do squat for me. I am desperate to get quality sleep. Any other idea's or methods to improve this I would apprecaite. Thanks
 
I had sleep apnea for so many years and consulted a neurologist. He asked me to take an MRI & blood works to identify the problem. Blood works came out normal and MRI showed disc bulge in L4, L5. He prescribed physiotherapy and psychology sessions. The psychologist taught me some simple exercises to do at bed before sleeping. He also taught me breathing exercises to ease my body. I later learnt meditation. Now I can say that I am able comfortably sleep for 7-8 hours or more a day. If not all the above, at least try meditation, it will definitely help you.
 
Well snuggy said it best here. I would definitely recommend deep easy breathing among other techniques while laying in bed and a daily workout could really help too...
