Why is it that all you people seem to be comparing the all time greats with some freak who has had 1 or 2 albums out..

Sure eminem, DMX and a few other late 90's stars can rap but as far as being the best of all time......pleazzzzzee!!!!

Come back when you know what the fuck you are talking about. go listen to the music that made them........listen to some earlier shit too.......
Im not saying they r bad, far from it, but listen to some classics like old skool snoop and dre (the first cronic album, doggystyle), Ice-t (original gangster-one of the best albums ever!), public enemey(any album...apart from he got game!), eric b & rakim, de la soul (3 feet high & rising),Easy-E(straight off the streeets...), Bone thugs 'n' harmony (E.1999 eternal) das efx (hold it down), house of pain (fine malt lyrics), LL cool J, NWA( straight outta compton), some of jazzy jeff & the fresh prince's old stuff (summertime was a classic!), KRS 1, busta rhymes, Ice cube (the predator, leathal injection), WC (the shadiest one), mack 10, RUN DMC, Coolio, the fugees (the score was a musical master piece).
Also some newer guys have some good shit to hear
Xibit (at the speed of light), DMX, M.O.P, Ja rule on j-lo's album is funky, Fat joe.......hopefully some more soon....

For the most part, I'd agree with most of what you said, except for Sure eminem, DMX and a few other late 90's stars can rap but as far as being the best of all time......pleazzzzzee!!!!

DMX is not even close to being one of the best ever. But Eminem definitely is. He's got 4 albums out solo, plus the D12 CD, so he's got experience. However, I've never gotten a chance to hear all of the songs on "Infinite" (which only sold 500 copies) and "The Slim Shady LP" wasnt that great (3-5 solid tracks). However, "The Marshall Mathers LP" and "The Eminem Show" are simply masterpieces. Maybe not on "The Chronic" or "Doggystyle" level but very close.

You'd have to be a fool to try to start beef with him b/c he absolutely murders on wax but some people have had good retorts (ie; Everlast on "Search for Bobby Fisher" - Dilated Peoples, some of the ICP songs, etc.). Now that Dre & Timbaland are beefing with Jermaine Dupri's punk ass and Juvy & his UPT Records are beefing with Cash Money, we're already starting to see some good beef songs come out ("A Hoe" - Juvenile/"Oh Boy Remix" - Lil Wayne, "Say What You Say" - Eminem & Dre). Beef songs are typically very good, even from mediocre artists because its obviously an emotional song for the artist. And Em sure does have a lot of beef.

Artists/Groups Eminem has/has had beef with: Everlast, ICP, Limp Bizkit, Canibus, Jermaine Dupri, ID-X (made the song with Em's mom), Dilated Peoples, Moby, Pimp Daddy Welfare, the list goes on...

And to the fuck who said freestyling is a true measure of skill, you sir are an idiot. Just because you can come up with some rhymes off the top of your head means nothing more than that. It doesnt mean you can produce a bangin track, or write a meaningful song. It means that you can rhyme in an impromptu style better than someone else.

Wow, BEEFY, you really do like your beef......its personal opinion, i think eminem is good, but dont rate him compared to the greats......freestyling IS an important factor to being a good rapper.....obviously other factors are more important, but producing??????????????

is Quincy Jones the great singer for producing a track or is it michael jackson for writing/composing and singing it?????

Dre is a great for his rapping....yeah hes made himself a bigger name by producing ect, but i respect him for his old skool rhymes on the cronic and in the late 80's

ehhh, what the....

i just read half this thread and had to make sure the question wasn't, "whos the worst rapper"

the word rapper is being used as a blanket i assume so here's my choices. i have no idea why no one has mentioned any of them...

mainstream rap then id have to say jay-z wins hands down. like him or not you have to admit he can rhyme. his earlier work is his best, such as d'evils and dead presidents 1 & 2.

I recently started listening to rap, and bought a few 2pac CDs and one from Eminem. I conclude these two guys must be the best rappers ever. For those of you who doubt 2pac's wordplay, download the song "Thug N U Thug N me".

What I can conclude is this: Once you reach a certain level of talent, there is no "better". They are different. But how can you really say one is better. I probably prefer Eminem, but I won't say he's more talented. Just different.
