You speak the truth, it's like askin' what's the best flavor of ice cream:mexican:

disagree!!

satriani, for example, is the BEST guitarist point blank as his technicality, feel, skills, and recording talent is on a different dimension that the others.

you can most certainly say that one isnt your flavor, but cant say that he isnt the best!

the lambourghini is the ultimate sports car but i wouldnt buy one even if i had the money... you see what i mean???

Satch is a master of his craft no-doubt. I am just trying to point out that this would be a very opinionated debate. It would be a pain inthe ass trying to get a lover of blues to agree that Satch is the best compared to SRV, Robert Johnson, BB King etc...."The Best" has too many variables. Someone that says Vai or Hammett is the best needs to know who taught there asses in the first place, Satch. It is all relative I guess. It basically would have to be broken down to genres of music and then go from there....I personally like Vai a little better than Satch though, he uses more tricks and shit and more effects, it is more pleasing to my ear.
Has anyone heard "Scenes" from Marty freidman...that is a sweet ass CD, produced by Kitaro. Has a japanese sound to it and shreds.....

Point well taken, however I still believe that it's a subjective call.

Satch is definately at the top of the list. I probably need to listen to more of his stuff (& watch some DVDs).

I understand the whole different style thing but Satch is beyond versitile(spelling?) I don't think that SRV could have played like Satch but bet your ass Satch could do SRV. Joe has not just mastered his own style but everyone elses to.

and that sums it all up!

this thread can now be locked! j/k

Great stuff here - you guys have got me digging through my CD cases as we speak.

One guy who isn't getting any love, and may not be the best, but is surely up there is Ry Cooder.

I feel more strongly about SRV than any other guitarist, although I'm not a musician and no expert on guitarists either. In his playing, the soul, the feeling came through nicely (as should be the case for any good blues). I was also impressed by him as a person (or at least my impression of him)...how he turned his life around and tried to embrace the good things. He was a pure conduit, and music seemed to flow through him like a river.
