It's still not easy to say that. You might be able to claim that he is a technically better guitarist (as in he could play Cobain's riffs but not vice versa), but you can't say he came up with some of the catchiest, greatest guitar riffs of all time (that happened to be largely ripped off from the pixies).

Who? Carlton?

About 400 albums under his belt, and true masterpieces like Kid Charlemagne and AJA by Steely Dan and Court and Spark by Joni Mitchell, hands down he'll whipe the floor with nonsense guitarist like Cobain.

By the way, Larry Carlton co-wrote the theme song to Hill Street Blues.

And yet I'd rather listen to a Nirvana song any day. What a simple, easy-to-grasp concept. Or so I thought.

By the way, having 400 albums out tells me you simply know how to churn shit out with no regards to quality.

And then compare him to the likes of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) or Doug Martsch (Built to Spill). Carlton most likely would never be able to play some of their riffs period, LET ALONE having a fraction of their genius and originality. Something I read recently, and agree with: "[Doug Martsch] squeezes blissful new sounds from electric guitar, which after about 70 years is monumental."

Larry Carlton > GUITAR LEGEND

Use dictionary if you don't know what the word Legend means.

OH N0Z!!!1 A L3GEND?! OMFG! I STAND CORRECTED.

Way to address none of my points, big guy.

Just to humor you, this is the only applicable dictionary definition of "legend":

2. One that inspires legends or achieves legendary fame.

Now why would this sway my opinion? Justin Timberlake and Eminem have also achieved legendary fame. I guarantee more people have heard of them than your guitarist. Does this mean that Justin is a more talented singer than Jeff Buckley (hell no) or that Eminem is more talented than Gift of Gab (FUCK no)? I'll keep listening to my not-so-legendary-yet-far-more-profound music, and you can listen to your uninspired pap.

Let's cut the bullshit, the pure fact is that Larry Carlton is hands down a way better guitarist than your nonsense MTV grunge crap guitarists combined. Larry is one of the most versitile guitarist on planet, master of Jazz, Country, Blues and Rock guitar.

You're a 21yo kid who probably has never even heard about him but you know your MTV.

Again, you sidestep ALL of my points, simply reiterating what you said earlier.

You just don't get it. Your entire argument amounts to:

"Nuh-uh! Carlton is better!"

I don't think MTV would play much of the earlier Sonic Youth (their good stuff, like Daydream Nation) and I don't think Built to Spill even has a music video (and who said they or sonic youth were grunge? Sonic Youth came BEFORE grunge). Larry Carlton is generic guitar. I never said he didn't have ability. However, guys like Kevin Shields create works of unbridled genius. Stay in your comfortable little music rut, because you're sure as hell not succeeding at arguing your way out of it.
