Best Food to Eat Before Bedtime

can someone tell him (and me) which kinds of proteins to take. I know some proteins digest faster than others. Someone going to bed wants proteins that take time to digest to prevent catabolism as long as possible.

casein is definetly the prefered protein at bedtime, you really need to ingest 40 grams or more to really get a good long lasting effect.

personally my night time bed time shake is 25 grams calcium caesinate, 25 grams egg white protein (complements the amino acid profile of the caesin), 10 grams L-Gluatamine (NO IT DOES NOT COMPETE FOR ABSORPTION !), 2.5 grams D-Ribose in 8 oz fat free milk (lactaid) and 8 oz water.

well casein has been shown to be slowly absorbed by the body and is a good choice before bed. against popular belief, whey shouldn't be the only protein taken prior to bed as this protein digests too quickly which leaves you without a continuous level of amino acids while u sleep. any kind of lean meats would be a good choice too as solid foods take longer to digest.

Protein shake before bed always gives my metabolism a boost. Some nights I wake up starving and go get some peanut butter.

Met-Rx APM60 cho. with 2 heaping tbsp of peanut butter. I sleep like a baby and grow like an animal.

Breaking it down for you... Bottom line is you don't want to eat carbs before bed. You want protein. Some people prefer solid food in a small portion, others prefer a shake before bed. Just choose what you like best.

Only suggestion from me to you is if you go w/ a shake make sure it has a good portion of cassein in there so you don't go catabolic so fast. Other things that will slow down the absorption time of protein is good fats like flax, olive oil, peanut butter, and fiber (ex Metamucil)

it basically comes down to calories in vs out. your body doesn't know what time it is, only your brain. if you ingest carbs at night and you are going above maintenance calories they very well could be stored as fats, if glycogen stores in the liver and muscles are full.
