Best cheap 4x4.

I'm thinking of picking up a cheap 4x4 for snowboarding season.. I can't put chains on my wheels on my car.

I'd prefer to have something that gets at least 20mpg on the freeway because I usually have to drive 800 miles round trip to get to the mountain I snowboard on.

It doesn't have to be nice and fancy.. and it would certainly be used and fairly old.. looking for something for a few grand... cheaper is better.

Im not sure how much you are willing to spend.

However, an old bronco or blazer should do the trick.

Not sure about 20 mpg, maybe like 15.

An old CJ (jeep) would be your best bet, just make sure the heater core is good, and the valve cover doesn't leak to bad...easy to find for $2000, and under.....plus there are fun as shit in the summer, ........or..........you could buy my overpriced piece of shit H2....I have never been as unhappy with a vehicle as I am this one, I am a dealer, so I never buy something I know I can't turn a profit on.....except this hunk of shit..... lesson learned......

Yes they are for 800 mile trips. Jeeps do not get even decent gas mileage really.

I could be wrong, but I think it will be very hard to find a 4x4 that gets 20mpg if you can find one at all.. I have a 2001 dakota quad cab with lots for extras and still only get about 15-16mpg

Just to clarify, the YJ's have square headlights. The TJ's are the new models with the round headlights and coil springs. And the older 4-cylinders get horrible gas mileage because they are grossly underpowered, you have to drive with the pedal to the floor most of the time.
