Ruby Tuesday's is good.
The worst place I've ever been to for a burger was 5 guys.
Everything about 5 guys is terrible to me.
The burger, the fries, and those fucking peanuts.
The food tasted like complete shit and they got my order screwed too.

Sonic is worth a shot as long as you realize that nothing there transcends the price. It's not gourmet fast food or anything, it's not even In-N-Out or Whattaburger, but it's kind of a nice reminder of all the little mom-n-pop dairy bar joints that used to be in small towns along the old 2-lane highways when I was a kid.
The best burgers are at dives and steak houses, not in national franchise restaurants. Two of my favorites are The Band Box in Little Rock and the Camelia Grill in New Orleans.

Therefore the Apple Pan in West Los Angeles has the best burgers I've tasted, and that includes comparing many many "best" places across the USA where I've eaten.
For a chain, probably Fuddrucker's is best. Mainly because you fix the burger yourself, and that means no misunderstandings with the wait staff and kitchen about just how much of what, you want on it. And they let you pick how well-done the burger is. Fuddrucker's is all gone from SoCal that I know of, but I eat there when I spot one elsewhere.

Both of my parents were from Oklahoma, damn I'm glad they escaped before I was born. Mom was an Okie from Muskogee even. Spent many a Thanksgiving and Christmas there.
Strongman Whit Baskin is from Durant OK, I think his parents have a restaurant there, I imagine if nothing else there must be some good protein sources on the menu.
