agreed on JJK.

This is an extremely difficult question to answer. With so many sports it's like comparing apples to oranges. Also comparing athletes from different is very hard since athletes have gotten better with time. So with that said, you can either pick the best athlete from each sport, or you can choose the best multi discipline athlete.

Bruce Jenner (remember him?)

and

JJK

Jesse Owens

I've watched several documentaries on him - the man was incredible.

and due to the times - likely quite clean too compared to today's athletes :)

Muhammad Ali

Tiger Woods

Wilt Chamberlain

Mario Lemieux

Bo Jackson

Griffey Jr.

I tried to hit all the sports that I could think of and soccer doesn't count :D

Bo Jackson or Michael Jordan...side vote for deion sanders as well for his two sport accomplishments..it has been said that hitting major league-quality pitching is the most difficult big-time sports task...bo and sanders did reasonably well at baseball and for neither was this their main sport

Vincent (BO) Jackson..Auburn University alumn...drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders of the NFL AND Kansas City Royals of MLB..

was an all star in baseball in 1990...was unstoppable when he took the football field..play both sports simutaneously..

The crackhead who stole my wallet....He was fast as shit.

Marry Lou Retton

Jamaican Bob sled Team (all of them)

Gary Coleman (in his high school years)

MJ is not even remotely close to the best athlete. Am I the only one who remembers his days as a baseball player? If his name was not Michael Jordan, they would not even let him be the ball boy for a slow-pitch softball game, let alone the minor leagues of baseball. Even if you just take his accomplishments as a basketball player into account, he does not hold a majority of the records in B-Ball. Hell, the only records he holds are the ones ESPN makes up. He is the highest scorer on the 13th day of months ending in "er" on even years. I don't see his name up as the all-time leading scorer and he has not eclipsed Wilt's single game-performance. The man does have some incredible skills, but they are one-dimensional and only apply on a basketball court.

Tiger Woods? What is his time in the mile? What is his vertical leap. Sure, he can walk 18 holes a day, but my fat-ass neighbor can do that. Let's see him whack down a case of beer and play 18 holes, if he can do that and score under par, maybe he gets my vote.

I would have to go with Thorpe in the end. The guy excelled in like 30 sports, all of which required a high level of athletic prowess.

JIM THORPE DUMBASSES!

There isnt even a close second in this contest! For those of the know, I give you many golf claps! And for those of you lacking of DNA, I will allow you to use some of my brain cells for your gene therapy!

True True

Jim Thorpe is probably a hell of an athlete.

I think he played everything!

from Football. to Olympics

My first Jim, second Bo third my Warrant Officer. LOL

Got to go with Jordan. Basketball has the best athletes. Requires strength, stamina, speed, hand-eye coordination, team work, grace, offence and defense.

Jordan would have been a superb baseball player had he played it in high school and college. Anyways the strike zone is not fair to guys who enjoy generous height.

Has anyone ever dominated basketball and been a real force in another sport simultaneously?

I must respectfully disagree...STRONGLY! Some would argue that MJ was not even the best basketball player. And as far as basketball players being the best athletes????? I would vote for a Hockey Player before a basketball player. They have to everything a basketball player has to do...WHILE SKATING. They might not have to JUMP....but when is the last time Kobe drove the lane and had to worry about being cross checked into next week.

IMO.....Track athletes are the most athletic. That is athletics in its purest form.

We're forgeting football here, (traditional football, not that fake American stuff) Most sports require a court or expensive equipment, we all know this, how many people wanted to play hockey, but couldn't/can't afford the expensive costs, baseball requires multiple people, and tennis is just straight up expensive. The best players, Best/Pele all grew up kicking a ball made out of rags and newspaper wrapped together. Track athlets in my opinion are just there, everyone can run and jump, some better than others.

I can't believe Mario Lemieux was mentioned but not....Wayne Gretzky......Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player of all time

:teleport:

Props to the great one. That little guy looked like he was gonna get killed on the ice his first year and now look where he is, nailing that chick from that gymnastics movie and owning every hockey record ever.

dan gable- only lost one wrestling match his whole career, including high school. wont the olympics without being scored upon

cael sanderson- junior in college, undefeated since he started wrestling at the age of 7

wrestling is the oldest sport in the world. over 800 forms throughout history and over 50 today. uses no balls, pads, bats, gloves, just your own body.

Bo Jackson......4.18 40/ 40inch vertical/ 6'1" 228lbs/ over 400lb bench/ started in both NFL and MLB all star games in the same year winning mvp in MLB allstar game. the stories about what this man could do as far as throwing a football or baseball is phenominal.

RON DIXON

RON DIXON THE KICK OFF RETURN SPECIALIST/WIDE RECEIVER FOR THE NY FOOTBALL GIANTS, until he got tackled on the 4 yard line because he kept on looking back like god was behind him or something.

Muhammad Ali,
Jesse Owens ,
Michael Jordan ,
Carl Lewis

Wayne Gretzky
Pele
Walter "fucking" Payton
John Kordic - Who else could get high(coke), drunk and laid, get into a bar room brawl then go out onto the ice and chase a guy around for 60 minutes trying to bash his head in too. He died in his 20's.
