Bent over row question

wallcrawler

New member
Hey all. Geting ready to start 5x5 and wanted to make sure I have the form for rows down. A few questions:

1. Is stance knees slightly bent, bent at waist with back arched sharply with front of face just slightly ahead of toes?

2. Do you grip wide and pull with your arms going out to the sides at 45 degree angles or grip narrow and pull with elbows going straight back?

3. Where should the bar hit your body?

Thanx!

- Wide stance
- Knees slightly bent
- I use an overhand grip (just my preference, and safer for your biceps)
- Arched back, chest up
- When pulling upward elbows come back and barbell pulls up from knee level or below to waist (near legs)

My stance kind of puts me back on my heels a bit, but it all balances out with the weight in front.

Good luck.

Position you feet at a shoulder width position with your knees slightly bent. Lean your upper torso forward slightly. Keep your back straight, your head up and your butt out. Position your hands at a slightly less than shoulder width position, or closer, in an overhand grip. Draw the bar up and in towards the top of your diaphragm. Try to keep your elbows in close to your body and contract your lats at the top of the movement. Lower the bar in a controlled manner back to the starting position making sure that you keep your back straight throughout the movement. If your back is rounding then you are likely using too much weight. Practice with an unweighted bar infront of a mirror so that you can watch your form.

I go wider arms with an overhand grip, can also go underhand at about shoulder width apart.

It's your prefence, dependant upon whether you want to hit upper or lower lats?

All the above, use just enough weigh first time so you know where the lats. are being stressed. Once you got the "feel" and position, progressively add weight, you will know when it is right. Adding strength and power to you lats. will increase your bench press big-time, espically if you use your index finger position on the benchpress, backpresser like me.
