Bench question

Wyllis

New member
I asked this question a few days ago, but cant seem to find where it is now.

How long did it take you guys to bench 100kg +, when taking cycles of gear?

Well...

...I hit 285 B-4 any supplementation occured. THis was at a weight of 185.

I'm not on the other side of the pond, what's 100kg = to in lbs?
I put up 300lbs at a weight of 175. Also I'm not too sure of what it is your asking or trying to find out.
I

started gear after being able to do 225 for 6 reps

how long you been training? and have you plateaued yet? that's what should be the deciding factor in whether or not you juice.

I am currently doing 375 at 175lbs. Just came off a comp diet. Been off juice for 4 weeks and that was just winstrol. Plus I'm only 19.:D It's all technique

What dya press at the moment Wyllis. Only been working out for 3 months and im doing 60KG. Just wondering... im in the UK too BTW.

Totally agree. But what if Wyllis is a midget?

yeah, or what if he actually does it right? unlike 3/4 of the people i see in the gym that bounce that shit off their chest.

I have been training for about a year and a half, but most of that has been dogged by injuries I was training for about 6 months natural and was benching around 70kg for 8 reps. This is when I got injured.

Ive now been back training for 5 weeks and Im benching 65kg for 8 reps.

When I say benching I mean incline bench press and no I dont bounce the bar off my chest. I lift controlled and bring the bar back down controlled then I pause at the bottom before pressing again.

It actually gets on my nerves when people say that they bench 200kg when that all they do is bounce the bar half way and then let their triceps finish the movment. I tried bouncing the bar and I pressed just over 90kg, but that was a load of shit.

If you can't do 225 for a single I doubt you've hit your genetic potential yet. I weighed 200 before I started the sauce and I could do 310-315.

I have heard the general rule of thumb is 1 1/2 x your body weight for 1 rep max.

ie 200 lbs you should be able to bench 300lbs for one rep.
this is natural.

If your currently only benching 60-70kg then wait awhile (my opinion) and try and build up a decent
foundation naturally

lastly to increase your bench you need to do squats. your legs are the biggest muscle group and will
increase your overall strength.

check out either elitefitness systems.
or deepsquatter.com they both have good information on strength training.

I did 225lb. in the start of my 9th grade year of high school. And believe me that was all natural. If you have to juice to do that, than damn, you gotta a lot of work to do.

MOST PEOPLE SHOULD EASILY BE ABLE TO BENCH 315lbs NATURALY, I DID, AND I KNOW A GUY WHO DOES 365lbs WITHOUT STERIODS.

I did 345 without gear, but that was all I was training for because my bench is the weakest link in my lifts.

i'm 145-150 pounds and i bench 230-235 once after a work out. tomorrow i am going for 240-245 before i do my work out.

I benched 420 as a 200 pound 16year old naturally, as far as I know, anyone benching hard for over a year, regardless of size, should be able to put up 220

Bwhahaha! At 16 huh? My grandma can bench that at the age of 72 you tosser. I was benching 550lb when I was 13, so you are kinda lagging behind there, bro. Stop being a sissy and load up the bar! aaaaahahaha!

Behind a modem, everyone's a tough guy.

I could train with 275 when I started juicin. I was also 28 yrs. old, late bloomer, gave up sports for a bong when I was teenager, no longer curl it. I have tried to tell friends that are eager to juice to wait, but usually to no avail. Had one that started out with 750 mgs. Sust, 200 Deca and an Abomb everyday, would not listen, was certain it would make him swell to the same size as the big boys. He just ruined himself for further cycles. I would build naturally until I found it hard to grow naturally, and not before the age of 24.

I started my first cycle on Sunday. I got to 290 at 180 lbs. Of course it took me twelve years and ninety five pounds of bodyweight to do so. I knew at 27 years old and twelve years of lifting, I had probably plateued, so I started. A person needs to get all they can out of themselves naturally before they start.

personaly I think that their is alot of BS floating around here !! I'm 6'2" 280lbs and doing my first cycle now my bench is going up good and I've been lifting all natural since I was bout 12 (24 now).
I don't know what my one rep max is but I hit 8 sets of 5
with 385 , honest clean reps.
I power lifted in high school and not once did I ever see anybody under 249lbs lift 400lbs for a cleat legit lift.

I thing that some of you guys have your bench press confused with you leg press !!!

I have never tried a 1 rep max incline bench.

When I said I was incline benching 70kg this is for 8 reps, bear in mind I have only been back training for 1 month after a 7/8 month complete lay off. Before I had the layoff I was only incline benching around that and that was after only a few months of training.

hitting 400 clean

I have hit 400 #'s clean at 197 in the Pennsylvania state powerlifting championship, at 24 years of age, I have just now hit a plateau and can no longer get my bench to go up, so it is now that I am contemplating the gear..........so your body has a ways to go to reach its natural potential if your worrying about 100kg

This shit pisses me off. 1st of all, who's give a rats ass what you can bench. Unless your getting paid for it, like a few people i know. 2nd EVERYONE'S genetic potential is different, with different muscle groups. I for example SUCK at bench. I'm 210lbs and can only get 230lb up once. I've been lifting for over 3yrs. However, my partner who can get 350lbs up, uses the same weights on every other lift as I do. I have very long arms which makes it more difficult for me to bench than someone lets say, under 6'0. Second, everyone that say's you should wait to juice till you can bench 300lbs naturally is talking shit. That's why most people juice.
I say, if you look good, can kick ass, and oh yeah, LOOK GOOD.. who cares what you bench.. Is that your pickup line in a club???

Peace..

just to add my 2cents. I am currently 185-190 and bench about 405. In the winter time i had a one rep max on the bench of 440, I was about 198. I beleive it all depends on your strong points. I have week bis and decent legs but really strong tri's and chest. My back and shoulders are pretty good but not amazing. I have one of the best benches in my gym especailly pound for pound. But as a few others said who cares! Its about how you look not how much you can lift. Being strong means nothing if your a tub of shit! I train for strength and cuts. ;)

This thread just demonstrates what many of us have know for a long time. Many people need some common ways to measure up to others, especially with strength. Bench is the most common, squat and deadlift are common too as they are PL components.

There are obviously reasons for people who can bench more or less, arm length, etc, but much of it has to do with form. If you want good info about bench and other PL training methods visit elitefs.com (westside barbell club)

Train hard, eat big, and "gear up" Whatever you started with for weight will be left in the dust. Good luck

Hmmmm, Now where did I put those hip-boots of mine......? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Just to chime in,

Usually its non- gym goers who ask dumb shit like "How much do you bench?" when's the last time someone walked up to you and said dude "How much do you trap bar deadlift?" or "how much weight do you strap on for weighted dips?" you never get asked those questions.

Point being also, not to dis, or flame or put any brothers down, but everybody and their mother is going to give you an inflated answer as to how much they bench here. When I see people talking about benching 440 at 198 pounds, and 16 years old all that bullshit, all I have to say is, why aint your ass in the paper? why isnt your lying ass in the damn newspaper.

So take answers to "How much you bench with a grain of salt, because everybody benches 400 up aorund here.

Peace to my true brother,
Natural Mike

I agree with natural-mike , mos of the time people that ask " watcha bench " don't know what the fuck they are talking about

I've got realy big legs and have had people say "damn your legs are huge , how much you bench " what a dumb ass question !!

I think that the best thing to do when people start talking about how strong their bench is , is start talking about you dick (ie) "yea well I bench 420"you say "yea well I got a 9" root , and you girl loves it!!!":D

Dude, wait awhile. Your body has not obviously been trained to hit heavy weights yet. I am a powerlifter, and I waited until I after Ihit 480, clean in a meet. It took me 5 years to get there. Then I saw 500 in my reach and decided it was time for the supplements. Don't listen to these idiots that say go on it now, hell, you are so new to this that you may not even be lifting in a year -- you never know. And to the other people that say who cares what you can lift, it's all about what you look like, well, if girls outlifting doesn't bother you then go at it, keep lifting your little 135lb benches, your 315lb squats(which probably aren't deep anyhow), your dumbell kickbacks(I laugh when I see a guy doing these).

I am not jumping bodybuilders here as I have the utmost respect for them. I could not diet like that. All the serious bodybuilders I know like to be strong. We have one idiot at the gym that is juiced to the hill year round, the damn jerkoff can't even bench 315,and squat -- forget it, he thinks a squat is when you take a hsit. The guy is fragile, why? because he never puts his body under unough weigh. Heis always tearing something. Anyhow, you get the picture -- wait until you are ready -- you will know and you wont have to ask a bunch of people that you don't even know.

Thats a load of shit.

I do not agree that if someone asks you how much you bench then they dont really know what they are talking about.

The only reason I asked that question was because I was wondering how my progress on the bench is coming compared to others.

If you want to talk training I can talk you under the table. I dont know a hell of alot about juice, but I can hold my own. But when it comes to training I know a hell of alot more than alot of people.

Bring it on!

Cool, good for you.

I will be curling that weight soon and more.

Like I said earlier Ive only been back training for a month and I bet that you was not benching 70kg incline perfect form for 8 reps after 1 month of training.

Mate I have a long way to go and if your physique aint good now its never going to be.
