bench press vs dumbbells

faller

New member
Quick question, I'd like to do resonably heavy bench presses, but have no spotter. So I was thinking I could just DBs, as I won't get pinned under them like I would the bar. Questions: would my results still be comparable to using the bar and should I keep the DBs apart at the top to stimulate using a bar, or should I bring them together as I go up to follow with a natural motion?
Thanks!

Some people prefer DBs to BBs for chest work....the movements are such that there is very little carryover to either..

I'm guessing you workout at home? If so...do you have a power rack? You could use the safety pins to bail out if you fail...

Bottom line: Either using a bar or dumbells is a win win situation. One will get a greater range of motion using DB`s but one can use greater poundages using a bar but one also uses more supporting muscles using DB`S.

As far as keeping the DB`s apart at the top of the movement to simulate a bar I do not do that. I like to bring the DB`s together and squeeze my pecs at the top. aka...greater range of motion.

Pump on .....
