Bench Press PR

Hi guys. My bench has been plateud for a while, but today I just hit 360 for 1 rep. Felt pretty good. 350 was my best unassisted lift before that. This lift was basically unassisted, spotter had his hands barely grazing the bar, so pretty legit, Lift was done raw and BB style with back flat on bench. Though I tucked my legs more then usual and tried to use more acceleration. Seems Im learning the PLing technique little by little. ThanX for the inspiration guys.

nice pr, that is like almost double bodyweight for you right? Very impressive...

Thank You Iron. I take that as a major compliment coming from you. I read your posts all the time, very inspirational. I was about 183lbs when I did the lift so maybe 6lbs off from double bodyweight. My best is 425 with two fingers spotting me on each side of the bar. But I find the mental aspect of bringing the weight down and blasting it up unassisted can be intimidating sometimes. So I had my training partner keep his hands hovering underneath the bar, so I could concentrate soley on the power.Still trying to learn the PL style, little by little I guess. ThanX again! Look forward to reading your posts

Congrats on the lift... how long did the workout take? less than 4 hours I hope

haha Hey Revex. ThanX bro. This session took exactly 4 hours. From 4-8pm. My gym closed at 8, so had to hurry up haha. Im eating a ton now to make up for it though. Picked up 4 double-stack cheeseburgers from wendy's and a half gallon of milk. Its insane, I lift at two different Gold's Gym locations and one gym has a flat bench that Im much stronger on, the other I cant lift as much, especially noticeable with the reps. For the first time in a while I maxed out on the "good" bench haha. So maybe that helped. Not sure what causes one bench to make me stronger then the other. ThanX again Rev!

wow...that's some weight now...now if we can just get you to bench "right" and into a shirt....can u say...475!!! awesome job, brotha. tb

Very impressive lift. Well done!

List what you did with your 4 hours? I'm mighty curious :)

ThanX Zander. Hows the football training coming along? Decide which position to work on? My chest routine wasnt too dense with sets as in the past. Heres how it went:

135X20 (warm-up)
225X12 (warm-up)
275X9 (warm-up)
315X3
335X1
355X1
360X1

then back down

315X1
275X7

Plus maybe 5 failed attempts Pretty low volume compared to what I used to do. Not too long ago I used to push every set to failure, even the warm-ups. Now I limit them somewhat. Long rest between some sets. Hope that gives some insight ThanX again

ThanX Leatherface and Atomic You guys get me pumped to set more PR's .

Leather- Did you pass 365 on the box squat yet? Thats some power

Atomic- Some impressive numbers on the squat and bench 500+ for reps and 365 for 4 Nice Hows the progress been?

thanX again guys

ThanX Brute. That would be nice haha. Hopefully I can learn the PL style and become alot stronger in the next few years. Would love to get deep into PLing style. As of now Ive just been absorbing as much as possible from all you guys and spending hours on the boards.( Since I dont know where to find hardcore powerlifters) Feels like a family on here. Fucking awesome. ThanX for all the inspiration. Everyone has been cool as shit! Look forward to seeing you all become freaks!

good job, lifting is a lot of mental, with a good spotter you lifts tend to be so meuch better, Great job BTW keep it up

Ive noticed that too. Its amazing what a hand near the bar can do. I always think Im getting assistance and then my spotter will be like "Shit man I didnt even touch it" Of course in my mind its not a clean lift until there are no hands in sight. But guess even the powerlifters have hand gliding near the bar, so maybe thats a bit strict. It went up real fast so that felt good. Showed me that it was all me. Theres been days I struggled out 365 for assisted reps, and my spotter told me it was mostly me, but that wasnt the same. It was nice to get in the right groove and blast it up. ThanX again

ThanX guys! Keep posting more PR's It'll psyche me up to hit 400 raw by april, hope I can spread some inspiration as well If anybody here wants to chat send me a PM or IM on AOL,AIM or Yahoo or email. My AIM screen name is WalkingBeast and for Yahoo its Ravensolid =)

Just had a look at your pictures, and they definately do justice to your hard work.

I am going to try and play RB or FB (even though I might need a bit more height), but mainly focus on getting a lot bigger and stronger while maintaining the good speed and power I already have.

ThanX Zander. Awesome. Sounds like you have your goals set and eye on the prize. With the heart you have and persistance youll accomplish anything you set your mind too. And talking to all the super knowledgable people on here cant hurt either. :D Dont let anyone get in your way or even try to discourage you, cuz there are always people like that. Whats your routine been like? Not that Id know anything about football or any sporting even aside from lifting haha. But itd still be cool to see. Im getting ready for one of those LONG marathon deadlift and back routines I typically do on mondays. Thing that sucks is Ive had tendonitus in my elbow and only feel it when I do pulling movements where the elbows bend. Not sure what to do about it. Might have to skip the heavy lat pulldowns, chins, and any type of rows once again which really sucks. Dont want my back to shrink, but I can still do all the deadlift variations. Good to hear from you And keep training hard!

Appreciate the kind words, bro :) I've never played football before, so there's going to be heaps to learn as well as a lot of weight to pack on. I've got a load of work ahead, that's for sure.

As for my workouts, at the moment I'm finishing up an indoor soccer season so I can't be doing as much sprinting/agility work as I'd like. I've added a few olympic lifts into the mix, but the main focus at this stage is to keep packing on the pounds and building a good base strength.

Have a great workout.

Anytime. Nice. Once you have a goal set in your mind nothing can stop you. Good luck with the training also!

Those were once upon a time lifts for me bro. Not to say I couldn't do that weight again, cause I definitely could. I just don't want to right now. Sometimes, I revel in anticipation knowing I am trying a new heavy weight at the gym that day, assuming I am in that mode of training. Other times, the thought of lifting heavy like that makes me cringe. I'm in the latter mode now you could say!:D That being said, I did #350 x 3 the other day on flat bench @ #195 pounds 5' 8". BF is around 9-10%. Squats--a joke. I am going attf, and havn't gone over #315 x 10 in awhile. Deads--another joke. #315 for sets of 10, but that is at the end of my Back routine(sets 9 & 10). I'm not in a heavy basic set power building mindframe bro. I have to be, or it isn't worth my time lifting that way.

Know exactly what you mean bro. Power is really mental for me also. If Im not insane about getting the heavy weights, it doesnt happen. I notice that especially with deadlifts. I can be 7 pounds lighter and still break a previous record from when I was heavier.
That only happens when Im in an adrenalized , focused state. I cant say the same with the bench though. My bench constantly fluctuates and is impossible to predict. haha I can feel strong and still not be my best. Those are still some nice lifts. :) Id be more then happy if I could lift those weights on a "weak" day. haha Im sure when you are ready you will exceed your previous strength levels. No doubt about it. ThanX for the replies!
