i want to sell my home, buy a yacht and run charters there...so its my dream to get out of socal...maybe the Fujian Islands....

I used to work with a guy who always told me he thought I would end up on some island running a dive shop. He wanted me to have a SCUBA Diving operation and he would open a bar next door. ;) You can do the yacht charters.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.....one day I will have a Jimmy Buffett life. :dolphin:

friend of mine moved from Staten Island in NY to Saint Maarten. Loves it there and said hes never comin back. I wanna go too but dont think i have the balls to do something like that without knowing i have a good job.

Awesome! Good for him for follwing a dream. That's a big lifestyle adjustment too.

Honestly I could never live a long periods without the luxuries of metropolitan cities of the continental US. But I sure as hell don't mind vacations.

Iam a DIVER too...LOL...lets just go ....

i go 2x a year. even took the virgin islands bar exam 5 years ago, just in case i wanted to live there

if you're serious, the dominican republic has some really great beachfront homes for between 200 and 400k and belize is a great multiethnic society with english as the official language

but as your friend matt said, away from the tourist areas most of the island states are dirt poor

Yeah...that crosses my mind. The Bahamas are only like 50 miles off the coast of Florida. You could easily get your Metropolitan fix if you needed it. I have family in Boca too. It would be easy to get island fever on places more remote though.

property in st martin is even cheaper. if you're serious check out cupecoy, though the weak dollar has hurt some.
