background check website someone posted....

someone posted a website last week or a little longer where you can type your name in and it'll bring up "past charges" blah blah. i checked it out. it didn't work. fast forward to yesterday. i get a email from paypal saying i was charged 19.95 from that site. WTF???? there was a few others in the thread that looked up themselves too. Did this happen to you? or is paypal sending out spam these days?

That is really odd. Like HR said, did you give your e-mail address?

Are you absolutely sure the e-mail came from paypal?

Did you login into your paypal account to verify the charges were assessed?

i didn't put in ANY information besides my name. I just looked at my paypal account history and it shows no activity since june 1st of this year. I emailed paypal and told them about the email i recieved. I think that website we all viewed was a spam site and it'll send a stupid email about background checks. the email came from "[email protected]" i googled it and it said it's a scam/spam email address so who the fuck knows. i took my CC down just incase.

I get emails in my spam folder all the time from "paypal" saying i was charged $xx.xx for something and they want me to dispute the charges.

Basically, they are phishing for more info

you must have a trojan or something sending your web activities back, and then they send you spam based on what you were lookin at......

just dispute it on your charge? anything less than $50, i believe, does not go on your credit report.

I think anything can go on your credit report, though you have the right to dispute anything.

In my line of work, i've seen collections for $19

you need to send it to [email protected] same with ebay fake emails

that is how they find out about the fake emails and look into it, ok

I can grab 20,000 emails. Sned them al notices to pay $19 for viewing a site, or I will hit their credit report. 50 will send payments.

Do that every day. Almost $400/day. Not bad.

you must have a trojan or something sending your web activities back, and then they send you spam based on what you were lookin at......

according to probz.com and thetechguy.com and a few others. I posted up a hijack log of my computer and they all said it was clean from spyware/trojans. i've downloaded and run a bunch of programs that check for misc crap and nothing comes up.
