Back from a spinal problem, please READ.

Well, I have not been lifting for about a year now, and I just got the go from my doctor. I have a spinal cord disorder called Syringomyelia. Anyway, he said I can lift low weight and high reps. Basically 20-30 reps with ease, no staining. I need to keep the pressure down in my spinal column.

Does anyone know of a low weight, high reps program for mass? That would be very helpful if you could point me in the right direction. It is going to be hard going back into lifting. From a powerlifter with 400, 500lbs to 5lbs dumbells. Wow..

I would just encourage you to not be disheartened by the amount of weight you are now working with. As your body gets stronger, you'll progress. I would also suggust focusing on perfect form and move very slowly through every rep for an intensified effect. Good luck with your recovery, brother. :)
 
Depending on how depleted your body already is, you are going to more than likely put on some mass with even a high-rep routine, at first. But to answer your question, no, there isn't a routine doing that amount of reps, that is going to bulk you up so to speak. My advice would be, to stick with the high reps as recommended by your Doc, but do them with as many straightbar, compound movements as you can possibly stand. That is at least better than just doing machines for that many reps, as you probably already know. Good luck brother.
 
I agree. Any variation of the deadlift, at any weight can be good for some size. Don't leave out bent-over rows or ball-crushers, depending on your taste. High reps low weight on the machines feels like cardio to me... I don't think machines will do you any good especially at low weight.
