got stuck in the fence saturday night sometime... A horse we are training and trying to sell for a friend for some major money. He has laceration all around his hind hocks, and his Stilfle and Gaskin area, inside and out with one huge puncture wound that the fence dug into. He's so swolen and in danger of blood poison (was cut off from circulation for a long time and the toxic blood is now into his blood stream)

He was like a baby really... one of the three horses on the farm that I trusted and that followed me around like a baby. Its damn hard to see him go thru all that pain, and have to stand on that leg that is twice the size of normal, but he's being a trooper.

I'm off to go cleanse the womb, and give him his shots and some TLC.

yes, male horse


we have to continue to run clean cool water on the womb daily as much as we can.. and there are other med's that we apply daily. Along with antibiotic's (sp) and steriods' and some lasix for fluid retention.

I went for lunch and he is walking a bit better, will get some pics of it if I can. I wraps around his entire hind quarter and is twice the size of is other leg. We are using DSMO, and other things to pull the fluid out of the area. More of the worry is if the toxic blood that was trapped will contaminate his blood stream. Keeping a constant eye on his frot legs where his white socks are and seeing if is pigment discolors more.

So very sorry this happened, but I am a bit conufused when you say you are rinsing the womb with running water you really mean wound don't you. Probably some sort of nervous freudian slip because you are so worried or am I confused?

No matter I just hope the horse gets better and everyone can get back to normal.

vet told us it was good to keep it clean and cool, the swelling is horrid.

he's walking a bit better today. Gonna pamper him a bit MORE (hes one of my fav's so I already pamper him alot) Its amazing how much you can get attached to animals isn't it? I was there this am early.. then for lunch, and right after I pick my babies up I'll be there again.

man... at our old stable, one of the horses kicked his leg between the water piping for his drinking fountain and the fence, this happened in winter late at night and by morning the water had frozen his leg into the fence, one of the worst sites I've seen

... another nasty one is the ridiculous amount blood that spews out of the horses nose when the vets pull out the oil tube (which they use when they colic.)
