can anyone tell me how much you should consume in a day? thank you

There's way too much individual variance to even give you a range. Some people bulk better on lowish carbs, some need a ton; some people have super fast metabolisms, some don't, etc.

thanks for the help wtf???

What the hell! Did you bomb me for that?

I'm dead serious. It's impossible to give the "correct" amount of carbs to someone without knowing a ton of different factors. Stats? Metabolism? Activity level? Insulin sensitive? Total calories?

I'm actually trying to help you out.

Well, you want 1-1.5g protein/lb bodyweight, a good 20% (I usually say 20-30%, but tend to go on the lower side if you're someone who can lose weight quickly) of your cals from healthy fats, and the rest from carbs. So, if you have an idea of how many total calories you want to be consuming you can figure out how many carbs. That's the best way to figure things out IMO.

Of course, there's other recommendations like 2-3g carbs/lb bodyweight, putting you at 440-660g of carbs. So, assuming you're aiming for 4000-5000. calories, that would fall right in with my recommendation.

I'm bulking but don't count cals. Here is what I eat everyday for carbs.

Breakfast: Bowl of Oatmeal.
PreWorkout: 2 slices of Ezekiel frozen bread
Post Workout: Bowl of whole wheat spaghetti and bowl of brown rice.
Afternoon: A bowl of All Bran.
Dinner: Sweet Potato.
Late Evening: Oatmeal.

I weight 220 at 5'8" and have kept a relatively low bodyfat. I have been bulking for quite some time as I don't have the desire to cut down yet. Everyone is different, It'll take time to figure out. Don't be afraid to eat carbs when you desire them when you are bulking.

It's true that there is no flat universal amount..wish it was that easy....depends on tolenance, activity level, size, etc. Now I am up to about 275 and the scale is steady. My first manipulation will be more fats, than more carbs each week. For example, I use to ea 3/4 cup oats in the am, two pieces of ezekiel in #2, and #3 had a 1/4 box of ww pasta. This week it'll be 1 cup, 3 pieces, and more veggies in #3

why are you getting bombed? joe

I think it's because I'm trying to explain to people why the "eating 6 meals instead of 3 every day" is a myth, and really only serves the functional purposes of not having to eat such large meals (for those people who have a difficult time consuming lots of calories) and allowing less time for hunger to build-up to ravenous levels (thus lowering the chances of overeating if cutting).

It depends on many factors Woot, as said before... baseline figures fur a bulking diet call for a 50% Carb of your daily caloric intake...

then again, these are only BASELINE THEORIC numbers... if you are carb-sensitive, this might prove too much for you... say, you are bulking... and with your current stats these baseline numbers would look, for an average gainer, like this:

Mon to Sun
2 3.533 Kcal
30% 265 gr Prot
50% 442 gr Carb
20% 79 gr Fat

How many cals do you take daily when bulking? about 3500? (do you count them at all)... since your TDEE is already in the 3000 cals range, I can only assume (if you have not fugged up your metabolism with "hungry-diets") that you would need this many cals to gain.

Again, you can start with this, but if you notice that 440 grs/carbs/day are making you bloat too much, you need to start playing with those ratios... the whole idea of carbs while bulking is to fuel your exercise... ultimately, the minimum amount you need per day is that which will allow you to continue to lift heavier each week
