ATTN : KANE FAN !!! Your Punching Power Thread !!!

Kane Fan said:
that's so odd, boxing would make you a weak puncher
especially when yous ay it taught you footwork
if boxing taught you footwork where is the extra power your punches are getting from kungfu coming from?

well , I get into this all the time on less mature boards . Boxing isnt the best way to fight with your hands . Boding is the best way to Fight with Baloons on your hands . You have to fight in a way that allows you to get around the rather easy manner of guarding yourself with enourmous Hand Pillows ! Im not trying to Offend anyone , I LOVE boxing as a sport , but lets face it , getting around the GLOVES CHANGED THE SPORT IMMENSELY . If you ever look at Old timey Bareknuckles matches with guys like Jack Johnson you see that the style was FAR different , and in fact looked much like Chinese IMA .

h
I'm heavily into tremendous punching power so anything you(or djimbe cus I know he's into kungfu and is in this thread) can recomend would be great for me to try out

What do you mean by this ? You mean a Teacher or System ? Or an attempt at an explanation of how we generate Power ? A book or Video manual ? Combos of the above ?

I live in Rock Hill South Carolina
books or video manuals would be good or just descriptions on here that I can try to work on myself
and I would like to box and compete in MMA someday so boxing can help but it would change a bit with the gloves
I've noticed the difference between 16oz gloves and the smaller ones belive me

Well , the BASIC Idea is the same as Powerlifting . You should learn to Flex ALL muscles in a Chain . You have to think of EVERY Joint as a "Gate" that opens and Closes along the way - kind of like doing "The Wave" in Breakdancing combines with the Powerlifting . That being said , learning to do it is a different matter entirely ...

Include history, sole forms, two men forms, true wrestling (you can see the "Mahui" technique in SC_introduction_1), equipment training which included weight puller, tree hanging, belt cracking, bag throwing, weight bar, long bag, cane bundle. The class was in my University of Texas at Austin Kung Fu class. GM Chang, myself, and my students was in it. The forms was filmed in the UT studio. The interview and equipment training was filmed in my house and my upstair deck. It was one single documentary file and I just break it up in 5. You should have better idea about SC after this documentary film.

Please notice the different between SC guy taking a fall and the way to move in which are different from Judo guys.

Some time ago CCTV (China Central TV) on its sports channel 5 has broadcasted a series in 20 parts about traditional Chinese Martial Arts. The series has also been dubbed in English and shown on English channel CCTV9. It was a very well received programm about MA in local TV, as it presented whole spectrum of MA practitioners - from little kids practicing hard to have better future, through wannabes, enthusiastic, but looked down upon by their friends, to real experts.
Three parts in the series were about De Jian - a monk from Shaolin who lives in a small temple o the slope of Shao Shi Mountain and practices Shaolin Xinyiba, rare style, closely related to Xinyi/Xingyi and considered the treasure among Shaolin styles.

All three parts can now be watched online:

Another part available online is about Baoding Shuaijiao, one of the most important branches of traditional Chinese wrestling:

I think you have to go into your default and unset media player and then install Real Player. However, once you install Real Player it cancels out Media Player so if you want Media Player you must go in and reset it as the default.

This gheezer is AWESOME . WILL teach you how to use IMA in a Fight , Taiji especially . I know that hes too far to visit REGULARLY for you , but hes sort of in your Area and may also have Connections around there that I dont . He can PHYSICALLY SHOW you what I cannot , unless youre planning a trip to Philly or NYC anytime soon . An hour of his time is WELL worth whatever pitiful sum hes oing to Charge you for it . Even if its just to open your eyes to a new world of Possibilities .
