atrophy

If one has atrophy on one side of the body and one's shoulder hangs significantly lower on one side of the body will the situations potentially be rectified or am I screwed for life, I'm currently awaiting mri results cause the doc thinks I have a slipped disk in c5 which is also bothering me pretty badly but no sharp nerve pains feel more like a big swollen muscle in the back of my neck that is restricting my movement big time.

Any thought would be great?

Thanks!

What did your doctor say?

Do you have some kind of paralysis or are you just "on ice" now because of the injury?

The doc said he thinks I have a slipped disk in c5 and to just not do anything until I get the mri results which is killin me not being able to do anything, not having the gym can really destroy your mind!

This fuckin secratary doesn't listen to me when I tell her I'm in pain and she needs to set up the MRI but I guess there is insurance technicalities that need to be taken care of.

No, did your doctor say anything about muscle atrophy?

I thought this was something you'd been dealing with for a long time (one shoulder handing down). But from your second message it seems that this is a recent injury and you're freaking a bit - you haven't atrophied yet, you're just worried that you will. Am I reading that wrong?

haha no you read it right the first time, I have major atrophy now, but the diagnosis is very recent without yet having an mri yet, he did some ROM tests in my neck and said he thinks the disk is slipped, the only thing I told him was I used to get a pinch nerve that would send a hot ass shooting sensation down my right arm about once a game in high school football that was about 8 years ago that I just shook off cuase it only lasted about 30 seconds. Then no shit the next day I did heavy legs and have been hurting ever since, this is last tuesday.

Is your doctor a chiroprator? You should see one that has sports background. I have several herniated disks and the last incident I had was sciatic nerve. VERY PAINFUL. The chiro helped alot.

He told me that my back (spine) was`nt straight and my muscles were compensating for one another, so when I built them up they would twist my back even more. I know that`s not exactly what you`re asking but ... just some info good luck

those shooting pains you used to get playing ball are called stingers... it definitely did do you any good to get a lot of em....

try to get into a sports doc or one that really knows the area spinal injuries from sports related activities... I had a fracture in a vertebrae (don['t remember which one) back in the day, the disc got jacked up in the fracture and I was for weeks with them trying to figure it out, I went for a few MRIs and finally a CAT scan on my spine figured it out... no kidding I went to a couple doctors before they pulled thier heads out! anyway, all is well and good now after a couple months of rehab, but the diagnosis part was a big pain.... best of luck man, sorry to hear about your pain, I know the feeling.... (all I could do was lay there or it hurt like a b*****!)

I agree with gonelifting.

Generally building one's muscles doesn't make an underlying injury or postural problem go away; it makes it worse! Because to compensate for posture or pain from an injury you change your movements, and then your muscles build according to these new, incorrect motions. Now you have big powerful muscles that are used to moving incorrectly and it can wreak havoc on your body as well as make you look bad due to asymmetry and other stuff.

Thanks for some of the feedback, I do know of a good chiropractor so hopefully by early next week when I get my results back I will be able to address this god damn pain in the neck, I have been real cautious about doing anything, even turning my head side to side, and I'm nervous even about manual stretching and spotting people? No work no pay in this industry! Shit is depressing the hell out of me.

Yeah- don't workout (at least anything that causes any pain at all)

You could end up making it worse and end up getting a surgery to fuse some vertebrae and then be out 6 months and really be hating life...

I`m tellin ya bro, it can`t hurt. Don`t even wait for the Xrays . Go to the Chiropractor. I went in with my neck almost 90 degrees to the floor on my first visit and left felling ALOT better. Then after a week we got the Xrays. go NOW. It will help.
