Athletes toenail!

New member
Shit,
I have this little problem, athletes toenail! I forgot the real name for it, but its a fungail of the nail in one of my feet where the nail gets thick, disscolered and funny textured. I know that it is usually treated with an oral anti-fungal like a Lamasil and another one, cant remember, but they fuck your liver for real.

ANyone have this and have it treated? Any tips on what to do with it, alternatives to usual oral anti-fungals, anything?

Bro, you are gonna have to take the pill. Lamisil for 90 days. That fungus is living in an airtight environment under your nail and creams, lotions, topicals just can not reach under the skin and brittle decayed nail to work. You have to reach it via the blood stream. Trust me, go get the pills. Otherwise the fungus will manifest itself in other ways after a period of time (time periods varies) but you could find yourself breaking out in ringworms and jock itch, and while tinactin, Lotrimin, and Lamisil spray will work on them, they don't disappear, they just move to another bodypart.

shit, ill have to cut here in a few days (halo) so ill have to hold off a few weeks cuz that shit is hard on the liver. Ill take a my toes to a grinding stone in the meantime.....

I have that shit too. As far as I know, the only options are the pill or to have em yanked. The pills made me feel like shit and my liver can't take the punishment for up to a year to get results. I may have them pulled and start over.

ill do some research in to it. Im sure the pills will work faster and better if the nail is gone....... Then ill soak the fuckers in bleach.

The doc says they will come back perfect if you treat the toe with a topical once the nail is gone. Otherwise, even if you kill the fungus with the pill, you still have those ugly fuckin nails till they grow clear out. Come sandal weather, I'm thinking of getting rid of the bastards. (I guess its hard to wear a shoe for a while after they are removed.) My buddy had this done and is fine now.

Iron,
so remove the nail and treat with a topical, and dont worry about using the pill? I think i can handle that (its gonna hurt like a muther to take those nails out though...).

New Topical Nail Lacquer
The recent warnings regarding oral agents have made a new topical nail lacquer more attractive. Ciclopirox (Penlac) 8% topical solution appears to exert its antifungal effect through chelation of iron and aluminum.[17] Fungal cells degrade peroxides within them through metal-dependent enzymatic reactions. When the enzymes are denied iron and aluminum, the result may be a lethal build-up of peroxides. In manufacturer-sponsored studies on patients with 20%-65% involvement of the nail plate of the large toe, ciclopirox demonstrated ability to produce a clear nail and negative mycology in 6%-9% of patients, whereas patients receiving placebo alone only cleared in 0%-1% of cases. Negative mycology alone was achieved for 29%-36% of patients, as opposed to 9%-11% who received placebo.
Ciclopirox solution is applied to affected fingernails and toenails and the surrounding skin. It is specifically indicated for mild/moderate infections that do not involve the lunula and that are due to Trichophyton rubrum. A professional also must remove the unattached, infected nails as often as every month. Patients should not take oral antifungal medications concomitantly.

Patients are directed to apply ciclopirox evenly to the entire nail plate and 5 mm of surrounding skin. If the nail is free of the nail bed, the patient should attempt to apply the product to the undersurface of the nail plate. A full course of therapy is considered to be 48 weeks. Nail polish should not be used during the course of therapy. Once weekly, the accumulated coatings should be removed with alcohol, and the patient should file and trim the nails.

That's what the pod says.....I told him I couldn't handle the anti-fungal pills for months, cause I been on gear for 3 decades. I have the Rx here still....its the same stuff that wrestlers use for ring worm, but that label says not to use for more than 30 days!!!
The foot guy says it could be a year!
Yes, it hurts for a while, but they put you out, and then give you some good pain pills. I had one taken off many years ago for ingrown nail....it wasn't too bad. It's just fuckin bad luck....some have feet problems, some don't. I was in high level athletics for a long time, and have had trouble ever since.....I bet you are a jock.
