Asthma & Cardio... Anyone else CAN'T do it?

Ok, i've got REALLY REALLY bad asthma. And it has kept me from doing a lot of things. Its SOO bad that sometimes i've been doing squats or deadlifts and my breathing rate goes so high, i've had an asthma attack. :worried:

I don't use it as an excuse, as i F***IN hate it, and i've been hospitalized many times just because i'm stubborn and wanna do something as simple as play football w/ the guys.

Anyways, i'm almost the size i wanna be before i cut, and theres no way i can do cardio. I can't just do "light" cardio either as my lungs will just shut down.. and believe me, its REALLY embarrassing passing out on a treadmill in front of lots of people.

Any of you guys have ideas? I've used DNP in the past (and YES, i am experienced), but i just don't feel up to it right now. ANd even with plain ol diet and exercise.. and i mean STRICT diet, i still have never been able to get under 10% which is where i would like to be, even if for a week!

Thanks and K for the help!

I use to be a boxer and I'm an asthmatic just like you. I've been hospitalized over and over but havn't been in a LONG time. Believe it or not, ALOT of it's mental. You'll probably disagree but thats fine. What I would suggest to you is just because you do something that you MAY have an asthma attack: take 2 puffs off of your inhaler. The albuteral inhaler. A doctor told me to do this and it really makes all the difference in the world. Be sure to take it BEFORE your cardio. Over time you'll be able to do more and more and need your inhaler less and less. I got to where I could run 5 miles a day in just under 2 yrs. Some people will doubt this but they can kiss my ass because I know this from personal experience. If you havn't got an inhaler so buy some effedrine/bronchial inhibitor (somethin like that) from a gas station and pop something liek 50mg. This product is actually directed toward asthmatics and it helps a great deal as well. Good luck man, it'll take some time but you have to stay with it!

actually, i do agree w/ you on some of it being mental. if i don't have my inhaler w/ me i'll kinda freak out before i do something.. its a really weird feeling that i don't know how to explain. i have tried taking it before i do cardio or lift, and it seems to help a lil. K to you. Thanks

I have had asthma since I was a kid, it used to be so bad I had a home ventalator to use a lot. They have so many options now that can help you. My asthma is not that bad now, only had to go to the er once, but I use a preventive inhaler twice a day. I am also going to this asthma clinic my doctor suggested which they take a serious evaluation of all thing that could bother you and find out what meds help you the best. I also box as well, thai boxing, but when I first started it kind of winded me, but after time I built up a lot of endurance and can run a long time etc. I suggest working with your doctor to see what can help, you might need a home ventalator. I agree though I hate having it and wish their was an operation or something to make it go away, but until there is we will have to do the best with what is there. :)

I have asthma now, and it does suck, especially during football season. Take different inhalers and pills to keep it in check. Take two puffs of albuterol about 20-30 mins before cardio and see if that helps. I have heard of people's asthma getting a lot better as they getting in better cardiovascular condition.

When I do cardio, just take a few hits and get on the ellipitcal for about 45 mins, while keeping the inhaler close by. good luck!
