My little brother was a wrestler in high school - He was average size but during one meet he was scheduled to face a girl. She was a large one, however still in his weight class - he figured as you do - this is lose - lose, so he forfitted the match. His coach agreed with his decision.caligirl said:A man taking on a woman in any hand to hand situation is lose -lose, either he beats her ass and gets shit from everyone OR she beats his ass and he gets shit from everyone.

I became proficient in defense, but offense took years. I was so used to getting worked, that when tthe opportunity presented itself (an offensive move) I didn't know what to do. I only had a couple things in my arsenal.. arm bar, elbow lock, triangle and a choke. I just couldn't think offensively to react... it sucked. So they finally realized it was best to put me with guys who were advanced.. Purple and Browns. It eliminated the ego and I was able to learn. They didn't care, they actually like it... so did I.

When I wrestled in high school the coach always made me practice with the heavyweights and the state qualifiers. My Freshman year I weighed 158 and the HW's were 200+. There was a method to his madness. I relied a lot on my strength and he wanted me to develop my technique. It worked, I consistently beat the heavyweights and I was a "ground wrestler." The qualifiers taught me how to take people down and work on my feet. The Summer leagues of Greco Roman wrestling REALLY taught me how to work the game on my feet. Moral of the story, compete against people better than yourself and you learn ten times more than competing against people who aren't as good.caligirl said:I've been there with Jiu-Jitsu. We had "wrestle offs" and the coach chose me every week.caligirl said:um yeah... that's what Purple and Brown belts were....better.. like years better.
back when I started it took at least 2 years to earn a Blue belt, to get 4 stripes (degrees) it was 2-3 years more then you get purple.-then 5 more for brown
it's different now, it's the amount of classes you take.. not skill. it keeps people coming back $$$$$$

he obviously saw something you huh? did you go on to college and wrestle? any titles?javaguru said:We had "wrestle offs" and the coach chose me every week.![]()
