aspirate or not ?

I didn't used to aspirate but, I nicked a vien bout' 2 mo's ago and went into a coughing fit. Now I try to aspirate every time. The question is,..why do I get air bubbles in the syringe when I pull the plunger back a little ? I have checked to make sure the needle was attached good and tight.

Unless you fill the needle with oil prior to injecting, you will have about .1ml of air that will come back into the syringe when you pull back.

A little air into your muscle isn't a bad thing. I prefer to have .2ml of air in the syringe when I inject so when I get to the end the air helps clear out the needle. Otherwise you waist about .1ml on every inject.

as long as your not injecting air directly into a vein your ok. a lil air into your muscles wont hurt ya. with oil based gear its almost impossible to get all the tiny bubbles out anyway.

When you pull back on the plunger you are creating a vacuum, increasing the volume of the chamber will cause these bubbles. The pressure inside the syringe is lower than the outside. The volume of the gear inside doesnt change, but the amount of space in there does, hence the air pockets.

a person would have to inject 3 cc's directly into the vien to have any complications. dont worry about a little air. it wont kill you. on the other hand, aspirate every time!
