I heard this on a local radio station this morning on my way to work:
Dec. 7 - KGO - It was quite a scare for the governor and his family. Gov. Schwarzenegger was taken to the hospital Tuesday night complaining of a rapid heart beat.
Obviously feeling better this afternoon, Governor Schwarzenegger joked about his health scare as he unveiled the official portrait of his predecessor in the Capitol Rotunda.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, (R), California: "I just do this so often to show that Republicans do have a heart."
The 58-year-old was hospitalized around midnight at U.C. Davis Medical Center, just hours after Tuesday night's lighting of the state Christmas tree.
The Governor's office says he had a stomach flu and experienced a rapid heartbeat.
His personal doctor recommended it get checked out. The doctors who treated the governor wouldn't comment.
Dr. David Roberts is a cardiologist who says the governor has good reason to be cautious.
Dr. David Roberts, MD, Sutter Health cardiologist: "We know he had a congenital heart condition, one that he was born with and had repaired in the late 90's. That condition will predispose you to some abnormal heart beats."
After several hours of observation, the Governor was released from the hospital and back at work Wednesday morning meeting with top aides.
It has been eight years since Governor Schwarzenegger underwent surgery to repair that faulty heart valve. While it was only the flu this time, doctors will be watching him more closely because of his history and the stress of the job.
