Army Basic Training

I've read the overviews of what it's like, but I'd like the actual low down from those who have done it.

I'm applying for Army Officer Candidate School as well as Air Force Officer Training School. I'm leaning more towards Army at this point. One drawback is that I have to attend Army basic before OCS. It actually sound pretty fun after the initial 2 week screaming fit of the Drill Instructors. Lots of gun training and obstacle course work.

So. What the scoop? Need the info.

It's a piece of cake if you show up in shape and with a postive attitude. Just be prepared to be yelled and screamed at to increase your stress level. You'll definitely want this training prior to OCS to learn about the very basics of the Army.

since you will be going to the Army, basic will be cake for you since it more than likely will be coed(the training that is...), but OCS will truly test your tolerance. I thought you already had some time in the service?

Nope, Basic is not co-ed, but OCS is.

what can i say? it depends almost entirely on your instructors. i had clinical, medically imbalanced psychos as instructors. i can hardly even describe some of the truly psychotic stuff they did. for example, we would use our bayonets to pry off our bayonet holder from our butt pack, and my 1 - IC would yell and scream at me to do so, with no regards to the fact i'm using a bayonet, and no regards to safety whatsoever. interpret that as you may, but if you were there you would understand. there are much safer ways to release a bayonet holder from a butt pack, and that is definitely not the way to go about it. two of my instructors were just perverted sickos, that's all i can say.

if you have good instructors, it's pretty basic stuff, but it really depends.

I must be thinking of AIT then. I was at Fort Knox for tank school, and there were all these male anf female privates running amuck with their Drill Sergeants "barking"(if you call that barking. sheit, I could yell louder then they can) at 'em. I could have sworn that basic for the army was coed.

im an old jarhead but its mostly the same ole stuff lots of yelling and physical/mental abuse, id do it all over again though you'll make some life long friends.

basic/ocs

army basic is a cake walk...its all male at benning and sill....all the other places are coed...ait is coed...but you wont be going to ait....ocs is a different story...it is a lot tougher physically and mentally...you run about 15 miles per day...that's what i'm told from the ocs grads that go thru where i work....but the pay difference is huge compared to being enlisted...i regret not going everyday...officers are like a giant fraternity/sorority in one....they take care of one another....it's not like that on the enlisted side of the game....you know what branch you want? you check the army ocs site?
