Can you still get just ephedrine from an online store or something?

You can get it in tablets with guaifenesin, which is has a similar solubility to ephedrine I believe.

That makes sense, for the herb.

Although, I bet one reason GNC doesn't sell ephedrine tablets with guafenesin is because it's a precursor. Am I wrong?

GNC probably doesn't sell the synthetic Ephedrine with Guaf. because it is synthetic...my guess anyway

nor-ephedrine is now banned, since it can be used to make meth. Stores can sell remaining stock (think NYC here).
ephedrine has not been banned, but insurance companies are raising premiums for companies that sell it, so some companies are voluntarily (if you can call it that) phasing it out.

Dial Tone pretty much nailed it on the head here. It is not banned, nor will it ever officially be (supplement act of 1994). But the companies are being forced to pay such astronomical liability fees that it is just not worth carrying anymore...My prediction is that there will always be one or two fly by night companies that willing to take that risk and corner that market, but once they get sued once or twice they will buckle under, until the next company comes along...
