I'm going to have to disagree with this article as being antiquidated. The regulation of the androgen receptor just isn't as simple as down-regulation of gene expression by AAS over-exposure. Rather, it occurs through the receptor's ability to induce transcription-activating proteins through the medication of protein co-activators. Now this second process is influenced by long-term AAS use and so it can be said that long-term AAS use does cause desenitisation in that it less-effectively induces the transcription mechanism that is responsible for growth.

I agree with you. But it's never been clinically proven so people like to guess.

I tend to believe the AR receptors do not down regulate. It is just that the body increases Catabolic substances(estrogen/cortisol) in doses high enough to neutralize the effects of the androgens thereby creating homeostasis. this would explain the immediate loss most experience in muscle size strength and libido following a cycle. Not only is natural testosterone supressed but the elevated estrogen and cortisol levels are dominant in the body forcing it into a highly catabolic state.
Moral of the story. STAY ANABOLIC(proper food intake and OTC cell volumizers such as creatine and glutamine) AND RUN PROPER PCT!!!
