I bought 9 lbs of apples recently & canned some apple pie filling. With what was left over, I made a KICK ASS apple crisp!! YUM!!
It was awesome!!

Aye, Sorry for sullying an otherwise lovely thread.
I am too rough. I need refinement.
I think I also need to get me some, baaad.

It's just that after the Jack Daniels Incident, I can't tolerate whiskies.....blech!
ChefWide said:Ahhh... I had an Absynthe Incident. Lost my pastport and worse. Ouch. No mas absynthe for me.
Shudder.
I love pecans or honeyed almond slivers in the crumb, some sun dried cranberries in the mix really can perk up the day, some times a handful of candied fresh ginger is a groove too. I do them in fat little individual ramkins, kind of Nancies up a homey desert if you need a quicky for company.
Coverguy said:Penn. Dutch and Amish are not the same thing my friend. Colloquial use of Penn. Dutch applies to the entire German and Dutch community that resides in that area.
jenscats5 said:Yep, when I buy more apples, I'm gonna throw in some dried cranberries.
I also have a food sealer, so for a Xmas gift it will be a jar of filling, the crumb mixture sans the butter (sealed in a bag) in a basket with some of my homemade Xmas candy.
ChefWide said:You can do a brown betty topping with teh butter and freeze it, then bring it to room temp and grate it on the biggest holes on a box grater, toss with fresh nuts, and top. A bit different in style than a classic Crisp topping, but a nice change of pace (my kids get a 'DishPie' about once a week from Tday to easter, pretty strong tratdition in our house, they have serious thoughts on what is and is not a crisp! lol. I love 'em somthing crazy)
