Anyone Work In TV?

Rex

My buddy and I were at work and came up with an idea for a tv show. Figured there is so much crap on tv, that there is no reason why shouldn't get a cut of the cash they're handing out. We have enough ideas to make up 3 episodes, just from talking for a half hour at work. Thing is we don't know how to get into the business or what to do before we pitch the idea. Any information is appreciated.

ideas mean nothing in this biz. hate to tell it to ya.

ideas backed by producers or production companies mean something.

ideas backed by producers pitched to networks through pilot episodes mean something.

There's not much you can do. Even if you just waltzed into some office and told your idea and they liked it -- they can just do it themselves and say "thanks. buh bye".

Most *ideas* come from people already in the biz. There's more than enough 9 billion suggestions for shows that they don't need submissions from the public.

:(

I worked in TV for 5 five before I had enough and said the hell with it. That's about the normal burn out time from what I hear. If you last longer you may do it for life. For something like that you'd need a contact. People have great ideas all the time but if you don't know the right people. There are 1,000's of submitted scripts every years that never be looked at anyone with descision making power. Now I worked in news and sports and I am guess you are talking the entertainment end of things but I still have an idea of how that works. If you have a news idea you need to be in New York and if you have an entertainment idea you need to be in LA.
