Anyone used "Unorthodox" Training/Exercises?

Anyone ever tried "unorthodox" training methods and get results? Such as working the same muscle twice a day....am/pm? Or trying to bring up lagging bodyparts by working them 3,4,or even 5 times a week? I remember a friend from college who did shrugs 5 days a week for an entire summer and his traps blew up! Obviously that kind of training couldn't go on forever, but I'm wondering about incorporating it once in awhile? Any experiences?
 
You can definitely specialize on a bodypart.

Keep everything in your routine the same except for the bodypart you want to specialize. Instead of doing it once or twice a week, do it 3-4 times a week.

Probably would focus more on higher reps and sets with minimal rest tiem and get a crazy pump going in the muscle. Doo this 3-4 tiems a week and it should grow more.

I remember doing traps in highschool 3X a week and they BLEW up.
