Will you marry me? LOL
As I said, my experience is limited because I've only had one day with firearms so I am sooooooo opposite any kind of authority on the matter.
I shot a 22 caliber revolver. I was comfortable shooting it but I wouldn't consider a weapon of this sort for personal protection. It's too awkward and wouldn't fit into a handbag. Not to mention you can't fire quickly enough. Cocking the gun was clumsy. Though once I got better at aiming, I became faster and challenged myself to see how quickly I could cock the gun and fire it. I think this would be fun at a firing range or shooting potatoes or cans off a fence out in the country. May get one just for that purpose but personal protection - no go.
I want something that has some weight to it. I know that seems strange but it is a *power* thing. Maybe I will get over that *romantic* aspect once I have had the chance to handle several different weapons. I just want a gun to feel like a gun (not a toy) in my hands. My mother had a very small pearl-handled automatic weapon (I don't recall what kind it was). I'd always thought *meh* when I remember handling it. When I held my father's pistol, though, I remember fear shooting through my nervous system. To this day I remember thinking, "OMG I could take someone's life with this."
I want to feel the same thing when I get my own handgun.
As I said, who knows? Once I've had the opportunity to handle several different weapons I will think differently.
As for recoil, the 22 caliber revolver didn't really have much. I mean, it didn't seem that way to me. The biggest bitch of shooting the damned thing for me was:
1. It was windy as a somnabitch and I had trouble keeping the gun steady as a result.
2. Cocking the gun between shots.
I am a small woman who doesn't have the biggest hands.
Yeah I'm not really a fan of 22's. You really want to be able to stop a bad guy with one shot
The hand size thing is a big issue for us since our hands are smaller
Yeah I'm not really a fan of 22's. You really want to be able to stop a bad guy with one shot, and there's a good chance a 22 won't do that. Since you're looking for a good carry, I'd suggest you focus on bigger calibers.
The hand size thing is a big issue for us since our hands are smaller, and can mean we need a lot longer than a man to find the right firearm. FYI you can get special grips for most weapons that can make one much easier to hold securely, so don't let a shitty grip put you off a particular gun. Look for a gun that just feels right in your hand. Almost like an extension of it. Hard to describe, but you'll know it when you feel it.
Absolutely DO NOT compromise though. God forbid you are ever in a "stress situation" where you have to draw it like I have, but if you are, your weapon needs to be perfect for you. If you aren't comfortable with it and are giving the vibe you are afraid of it, your weapon won't help. If fact it will probably be taken away from you, and maybe used against you. When I pulled mine on three guys that were trying to surround me, I feel it my eye contact and bodylanguage that stopped them, not the gun in my hand. It was evident I was very ready to put three center mass in the one I was looking at.
We just had that conversation about mass and foot pounds PSI the .45 wins, we will shoot a few then as milk and you said grips custom ordered.
My favorite is the old 1911 I carried so long that clanged and slapped for 7 yrs on my side. Then the commander is close, all the new .45's are awesome, now we are talking about perimeter protection. 50 cal or Howitzer.....
j/k
But eye contact is always the one thing that keeps sissy boys away, course the .45 prolly made their little pee pee's go turtle
BFold, the way I have been painted out to be whodathunk I would have either?!... well the gun part sorta took me by surprize, truth be told.
Well hell, Ah lives have changed so much since we first e-met. 8 years iza loooong ass time. (Said in my best faux-Texan accent)
Your little man must be gettin HYUGE by now!!! So when you guys going to have a little girl as pretty as your lovely wife?
(What can I say? It pleases me to see people happy!)
What kind of paint did they use to pain you anyway? What color? Who got to hold the brush?
Steven is big...more than a handfull. Having a girl? Gosh...we worked hard enough just to have one. Not sure I've got the energy in me to have another!

Have I told you lately that I wuv you?!
Hey, if li'l old me could make four in five years then a big feller like yerself has gotta have AT LEAST 12 in him!!!![]()
Personal insult that was totally unwarranted.
I was raped which is a violent crime so sorry, the metaphor is accurate. I've also been beaten beyond recognition/out cold on more than one occasion.
Believe me when I tell you - I am DEAD serious.
I honestly didn't mean it as a personal insult and have a hard time understanding why you took it that way unless you're confusing me with someone.
You mentioned if your kids were disobedient and didn't listen to your instructions on handling guns they deserved to be taken out of the gene pool.
Kids are kids and like all of us, use poor judgement and combined with guns, sometimes proves to be fatal. That's all I meant. Not attacking your situation. I've always wished you well in your effort to get your kids back and have never taken any low blows.
yeah get her one of those Iraeli monsters with a 13" barrell.![]()
Most young people my age have no respect for the 1911, but it's been around for nearly 100 for a good reason. I've never owned one, but I've fired one. Beats the shit out of comparable Berettas IMO, and relatively inexpensive too.
With a woman I believe it's entirely about body language and eye contact. I think with a man they look at the gun. With a woman they look at you (trust me on this one). The assumption first being she's too terrified to use it. Only when they see you aren't do they get that "oooh ok maybe I fucked up" look.
hey you guys should at least try the Glock 30 (subcompact 45acp). I'd had it for over a year now. Very nice carry, and as you probably already know there's bucoos of customs grips available for Glocks.
when i was in the military i was selected to be in the force protection. i had to go through a "police academy" in the navy and get qualified to carry the weapons. well on the very first .45 cal shoot i scored expert and recieved my expert pistol medal. i missed getting perfect by 5 points only because i grouped my shots together so tight they could count all the holes so they left one out. bastards..... anyway, they asked me how long i have been shooting. the truth is i only shot a hand gun once in my life before that day with a friends gun at a gun range and i did pretty good there too.
point is some people have it naturally and some dont. congrats BM on the shooting. its a great feeling when you out shoot everyone else that has been doing it their entire lives.
next time we get together we might have to have a competition......
