Anyone taken the MSF

Motorcycle safety course? I'm signed up for it and it starts in 30 minutes. It will finish up on Sunday at noon. I still might be able to sneak in a few adult beverages to celebrate my B-day though. Holla.

Have you taken the basic course already? I don't anticipate any problems. I'm just not looking forward to spending my weekend doing classroom work.

i've only taken the intermediate course. not bad. we spent the morning in the classroom watching movies about what happens to Johnny when he doesn't wear his helmet, then hit the parking lot "road course" for a few hours.

just keep an open mind and you'll learn a lot. good courses to take if you're going to ride.

Do you get to see some blood & guts? That would at least make it easier to endure.

it's been a few years, so i can't remember if we saw blood and guts or not.

but yeah, that does make those things more entertaining.

The one I took had two evenings in the class room one full and one half day on the bikes, then the test out and written.

Learned a lot of cool stuff and highly recommend it even to people who have been riding a long time. I may take it again in a couple of years except the advanced course where you use your bike instead of the loaner.

last i remember, there were 3 courses - Beginner, Intermediate, and Advance. you didn't have to take the Beginner course to get into the Intermediate one, but did have to take the Intermediate in order to take the Advanced course. i could be wrong or they could've changed it by now.

the Intermediate course was free for me. in order to get military base stickers, you have to take an MSF course. they offered it free, so hell yeah i was jumping on it.

our Company had a policy for many years - if someone got a DUI, the following saturday morning the entire company went out on a few mile hump (in formation hike for you civilians). since the base paid for the MSF course, when i signed up, the letter HAD to be signed by our company commander as my "appointed place of duty" on the designated saturday morning it was scheduled for, meaning, it'd be my ass in a sling if i wasn't there. i was signed up for this course 5 weeks in advance.

someone in my company got a DUI the weekend before i was scheduled to take the course. while they all took off to hike up some massive sand hills in the desert for a few hours, i was sitting in the classroom enjoying my coffee
