well after fighting with them assholes about performing the service on my computer, i sent it in, they fixed it and proceeded to lose the fucking thing.

a month and a half later and after countless calls, shitty customer service AGAIN and nearly a trip to anger management they sent me a new one

even though its fuckin refurbished, and i made it clean i wouldnt accept a refurb AND was told i wouldnt get a refurb.

i now have a 2800$ laptop that absolutely friggin loaded.

the only thing that sucks is its only one cd bay so making direct copies of cd's sucks

Yeah I've been putting off getting my screen fixed. It has this discolored blob on the left side of the screen that has been growing ever since I got the computer. I don't have an on-site warranty, so I'll have to send it to them to get it fixed.

They make fine PC's, but the quality of their laptops is inconsistent because they outsource a good deal of their production to Taiwan.

Why does it matter if you only have one CD? It just dumps it to the HD as an image and then lets you swap out the CD for a blank one.

Hard drives all have tons of space on them now, so the space isn't a worry, and all hard drives are faster than the CD - so essentially it should be faster to just do it to CD->HD->CD.
The only hassle is that you have to swap out the disc - which if you are that busy that you can't do that, well, then I don't envy that.

When they say things are refurb, they are essentially new, so it doesn't really matter.

Were you to buy a laptop used off of me - it would be exactly that - used.
If you buy a refurb laptop off of a company that makes them, they go over it and anything that has wear and tear, they replace with a new one.
Refurbs are a good way to save money.

I was going to suggest a dell to my daddy. Or a Gateway. Gateway has a cow box (and a store nearby so he can go yell at them in person).

Anything but another Compaq.

the dell i had was a 8200. i wouldnt recomend that one. the newer model one they sent me is built like a brick house and runs 100x better. the new one they sent me is a 8500
