i'm thinking of getting a glock 17 or a springfield xd. anyone own these have any input. thank you

weird the forums look just like ours. thing is i really would prefer to hear from ef people than these gun nuts. hopefully the c and c gun gurus will chime in soon. i know my guns, had a sig 220 a sig 226 and 229, glock 17 and 19 and ruger P89. i loved my glock above all and i loved my friends beretta. that is also one i am thinking of. but the xd won all these awards and people love them. scratchin my head here.

would you say you have a big hand. the only thing that feels right in mine is a beretta and glock that i have shot. the sigs were ok but the grip was a bit too short. can you elaborate why you prefer xd. btw i want a 9mm

I've ALWAYS been a big fan of revolvers. But, if i had to choose between the glock & springfield XD, i'd go with the springfield XD.

Here's a few pics of my Taurus .357 mag Model 605

get the glock. its the toyota truck of pistols. not unheard of for a model 17 to go 100000 rounds.

There're so many parts available for the Glock. The XD isnt a bad pistol, aftermarket is not there yet and there're some issues with the gun itself. The only real competitor is the Walther P99QA. Exactly like a Glock (quick action is very similar to the safe action) and with 3 different back straps.

Btw I use a H&K P7M8 for CCW. It's like the Porsche 911 of handguns.

the walther is a sweet gun no doubt about it. is a walther as reliable as a glock though. that is why i love glocks as well you can beat the shit out of them and they keep on going

Very solid. I had a few in stock when I started my business. Never got any complains. People liked the fact that it came with different backstraps so daddy could use it, then wife, then son. Also, it's a very well balanced handgun.

what is the cost of the walther. its gonna be tough to steer me from glock they are just so simple that is why i love them.

I have regular size hands. Try shooting a H&K USP 9mm pistol http://www.hkpro.com/usp.htm you'll love it. I did. It's light weight & compact like the glock. I prefer the XD over the glock simply cause i'm a BIG fan of their GI .45 1911 http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-GI.shtml
I've never been much of a glock fan, then again i've NEVER fired one before.

That pic looks just like a glock brogan.

h&k are nice but very expensive. if you haven't fired a glock then :worried: u can't really compare. you need to try its like firing a bb gun for me, however i have a huge as palm. i used to be a sig only guy. had a sig 226 and a 229, i was wrong about the 220 i had a sigpro 357/40 cal now that i am looking at their site. i swore by sig. i had only shot baby glocks and hated them. shot a full size glock and sold my sigs cause thats all i wanted to shoot. moved from az to a city where i couldn't have them. just relocated and i can get whateva i want. manny what is your feeling on a beretta 92 9mm, it always shot real smooth imo

You seem to have shot a lot of handguns. I've heard people complain that the Glocks have more recoil than other brands. Is that your experience?

I'm eyeing the Beretta PX4. It comes w/ adjsutable back straps, has gotten great reviews, and is under $500 retail.

Can't comment on the XD only to say I've probably read the same reviews you have and it seems like a great gun for the price.

yea i am really interested to know about the beretta. small glocks have kick to them for sure. the larger ones imo do not at all. i was a fucking surgeon with my old 17 i had to sell. i mean i am trying to decide if i should get my old gun again or try something new. even the glock 19 is smooth, just the babies kick like none other. especially in larger calibers. if i get a beretta its a 92

Small Glocks arent that bad. I have a G29 and it's accurate. Moderate recoil. I believe Velvett has the same handgun too.

manny what is your take on the beretta man. a 92 9mm. its between that a glock 17 and the springfield. i may go shoot some h&k's first but they are so fucking expensive.

I like Berettas. Had a Berreta 96 (italian not a made in USA) and loved it. Just couldnt the .40 "short and weak" attractive. They're heavier but the finish and quality is there. Keep in mind they're SA/DA unlike Glocks (if it matters for you....).

no i am aware of the action. the only thing i don't like on the beretta is that it has a safety. my sigs never had safetys just a deckocking lever. so if you were me and which gun would you pick manny. keep in mind its not for ccw i like a decent sized gun. i loved my glock but the beretta is such a good looking gun and i remember it having minimal kick to it. the springfield was not anything i was gonna look at till i started hearing about law enforcement and military preferring it over their glocks and berettas

the target is going to be a motherfucker's chest or head if they come into my place, but yes accuracy and reliablility are my two biggest concerns

I'm buying a glock 23 tomorrow. I think it's the 23C.
see the compact glock in a 40 cal is too much kick for me, and my hand is huge. i need the full size glock. i am going with a beretta on manny's advice. i went back into the store and held it. it fits awesome in my hand, and i love the extra weight. plus my girl is gonna be using it as well so i prefer it having a safety

The 23C is supposed to have less kick than other 23s apparently. I want one to carry in a belly strap if need be, but the guy at the local gun shop did everything he could to talk me out of the smaller glock. His opinion was that it didnt have the knockdown power I was after.

I'm not really a gun guru, but I'd like a smaller pistol also.

don't get me wrong, i had a glock 19 9mm that was a great gun. and i agree, if you go shoot the baby glock you will see why he said that, i feel it is waaaay to small and you can't even aim with it. my advice if you are not a gun guru is go shoot it. i have owned a sig 229 239 226 a sig pro and glock 19 and 17 and a few rugers. if there is one thing i learned the hard way, sometimes the compacts don't shoot like their bigger model. i loved my 229 sig so i got the 239 compact, man what a piece of crap for my hand. i couldn't even hold it straight.

I have the 239 and have to completely drop my pinky off of when I shoot, I just learned to compensate with it and have hit targets up to 100' away. I do like the sigpro much better, but the 239 is my backup.

Cheers,

Any "c" will have less recoil, they are "compensated" ie ported to reduce recoil.

.40 is a great caliber. I prefer .45. But a compensated .40 may be good for a Chiefs fan, limp wrists and all. :)

It doesn't take much time to learn to compensate for the kick. If you have a chance, shoot a 1911 .45 and an XD-45 before you make up your mind. GF has an XD-40, she is 95lbs., and after she shot my XD-45 she wants one over her 40 now and was a lot more accurate with it, however my 1911 kicks her ass still. XD is just a damn fine weapon.

I have 2 Glocks and love them..model 19 with lasermax site and a model 22 with trijicon nite sites..My buddy bought a XD 9mm and liked it so much he went back and bought the XD 40 cal. I have big hands too my wedding ring is a size 13.I bought the 19 for my wife and she is a big Glock fan now..I was worried about it not having a safety but after some range time she is used to it..You can't beat Glock for the $$ they never fail.

manny and all of you thank you. i went and shot a glock 19 that i used to have, the sig 226, and the xd, i loved the xd. shoots better imo for my hand and i like the extra safety. 16 rd clips tactical 9mm, i got the insight light and laser. love it. thanks all
