Anyone know about unemployment compensation??

I have been going to school part time right now for my masters and want to go back full time for the last yr just to finish it up. I would have to leave my current sales job. What can i do to guarantee i could collect unemployment??

I was thinking of going to all the meetings and just not making many sales and hopefully after a while they will realize this and have a meeting with me and i would say something like, "i have been working all the time and nothing is happening, maybe this sales job isn't right for me" Hopefully they would release me and allow me to collect. If they don't allow me to collect i could fight them for it. Would i win???

another question.... is there a way to collect telling the govt and your employer than you are going to school full time next yr?? like is that a legitimate excuse?? I live in PA too.

You can collect if you were fired. It depends a on why you were fired and if your employer disputes it. It's kind of a state to state thing. In Connecticut where I'm from it's an employee friendly state. In Georgia where I now reside it's an employer friendly state. But not going to required meetings would disquality for unemployment. Basically to get fired and collect you have to show that you followed the rules, did your best but was not able to meet what the employer required of you. Good luck trying to get fired.

What Show said. My buddy got fired from his job and was able to collect. It did require the unemployment office calling his employer to discuss whether or not he was fired for being an incompetant shitball or that he gave an honest effort which didn't cut it.

I fired an employee in 2001 for not showing for work on 13 different ocassions and of those times he didn't show up for work, 8 times he was absent for 3-5 days in a row. I finally gave him a written statement saying I would fire him if he laid out again and made him sign his name to it and I signed mine and I had two witnesses sign it.

He laid out again and I fired him. He filed for unemployment and with extensive discussions with the unemployment office and solid proof from me that I took all of the necessary steps, he still was able to collect although he was penalized a certain number of weeks and the amount he was able to collect was penalized also.

He now works part-time for me!

Go figure!?! I am a glutton for punishment.

i plan on going to the required meetings and all. I really like the job, but it's not what i want to do forever and if i stick with it i might be in school forever.
