I'm getting Sent to Hawaii since my journey into rip has come to an end. I've got 18 days to spend back in TX then I'm heading to Ft Shafter Hawaii

at least so I have been told...I'm stuck at Ft benning till mon or tuesday when they hand me my plane ticket for Hawaii

Any peeps there? I know of 1 maybe 2 just wondering if there are more on here. I'm interested in know about the gyms around the area, beaches, places to eat, clubs, living costs, gas costs?

I'm getting my car shipped there or a bike if I can't get the car out of Austin

Hawaii?

That sounds cool. I would imagine that everything is more expensive. I know that gas is more expensive. The cost of living is going to be high, but if you stay on base it shouldn't be too bad.

How long are you going to be stationed there?

RIP didn't work out, in the end I didn't feel like waiting around here for months to make it through.

Not sure how long I'm going to be stationed there since it's not considered a tour so to speak. I guess till i get orders to go somewhere else. I have about 3 years left so hopefully I'll be there for a year or 2

I'm from Hawaii and the hottest night spots are located in Waikiki. There are other places like Kailua and downtown Honolulu, but the majority of the fun is centered in Waikiki. I would say stay away from the North Shore/north side of the island especially late at night or travel in a group because the local people have animosity against haole (pronounced how-lay) people - which literally means "without breath" or "foreigner" but now applies to white folk/Caucasians. Some people might disagree me saying it, of course, but I gotta be straight with you. :)

You know living in paradise is pricey, right? lol :D I think you have access to a commissary so I don't think it's going to be that bad for you. Gas and food are expensive!!! High cost of living, but you have the outdoors. Beaches are everywhere - like Sunset Beach, the North Shore, Hanauma Bay (sanctuary for fish etc but you can swim there if you pay a fee), etc. In Waikiki there's a lot of tourists and clubs so if you're still hunting for cuties that would be a good place. :D

I hope any of this helps.

Nah, everybody isn't mean to us haoles now. Just some perhaps. I spent some time on the North Shore and I got treated great just like everywhere else on the island. Cost of everything there is a lot more then here on the mainland. Gas is up there as well. If the pay is being compensated to accompany those prices though, who cares. I wish I was back there right now.

Well, I lived on the east side of the island (Kaimuki/Waialae Kahala) and you can definitely notice a difference with the North Shore side versus the east and west side of the island. There are punks everywhere (I guess not just in one area) and I've even had them back talk my hubby (he's Caucasian) and I'm a local girl who stood right beside him. He gets called "dumb haole" a lot so I guess it depends on what circumstances. Even in the gym the local guys would give him problems because he's a big guy and I guess they wanted to cause trouble. I guess I should say not all locals , just the punks.

Yes, I guess the local people are not all alike, just the punks you have to worry about.

How expensive? More expensive than Manhattan? How much for premium gasoline to the gallon? How much for chicken, meat and fish to the pound? How much for a burger? How much to get some hot local chick to take her clothes off and get naughty? :D
